Am eyeing the 200 and was wondering, if the 200 was directly connected to a router by LAN cable,

1. How difficult is it to setup ProScan to allow me to control and listen while away, say, on my cellphone? (Know very little about "networking")
2. For #1 to happen, do I need to have the scanner connected to a PC and the PC constantly on and running after setup was complete? (This would be a deal breaker, as far as ProScan goes.)

I was never able to get the old 536 setup to do this, nor did I venture to get ProScan for the 536 but with a 200, it would be more than worth it.
Sorry for the noob like ignorance on this topic.

Ew, that bums me out. Is there any way, because the scanner would be piped directly to the router, to at least monitor the scanner without having to continuously run a PC?

There are some single-board computers similar to a Raspberry Pi that run Windows. If you configured ProScan to automatically run at startup, then you could run the setup without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse and very little power consumption.

Thin clients work well for just this sort of thing. I run two instances of RadioFeed on an older HP thin client with Windows 7 Embedded; power consumption is minimal, and I access it over my network. A great alternative to a thin client would be an older netbook.

Thanks for the advice guys. I would have the scanner on a lamp stand in my livingroom with no "permanent" room for a pc (or much of anything else). I just thought that if the scanner itself was directly wired to a router, I'd be able to access it somehow out in public, not connected to my own internet without the need for a PC, other than to setup any possible software that would make it happen. I take it that a PC is an integral part of connecting up with a scanner outside of your own network. Do I have that right?

You could try using a player and connecting to your hone network IP but you might need to get something like NO IP if you don't wish to type your IP address all the time. That would only give you audio not control. Also would require port setup and redirect in the router.

So, instead of starting a new thread......
I downloaded RadioFeed to see if I could get it to work on my 536 (through the dongle), installed it and have everything running fine except for one thing.

I can access the audio from within my home network using the local ip but when I try to access this from outside the network, I get a generic page telling me it cannot connect. To access, I'm putting in my outside IP that radio feed gave me with :5000 for the port. I am using Norton and have given RadioFeed all the permissions I could. Still nada from the outside. Any suggestions on this?

You want to setup the Router Port Forwarding with this info: Computer IP address, TCP Only, & port # of the server. Don't use the outside IP
{edit} I mean don't use the outside IP address in the router port forwarding but you are correct, use the outside address and port # at the far end.

I think I'm beyond the point you are advising. The program itself is setup and working. Within my network, on my cellphone I can put my local ip and port in the url bar and it works. What isn't working is when I take myself off the local network, put my outside ip with the port in the url bar. It takes me to a generic "cannot connect" page. The router is setup as you described.

That sounds exactly like the Router Port Forwarding isn't setup.

It probably is a Port Forwarding issue. I have Xfinity and am forced to log into my online account to set up Port Forwarding. I selected what I have labeled as "Uniden Scanner" which displays its ip. Set it to TCP on port 5000. Set a new rule in Norton for that port for allowing connections. Either Xfinitys setup to port forward is the problem or I just don't get how to do it. I've been at this for hours now. No dice. Like I said, works great locally. Outside the network? Not so much.

The "online account" doesn't sound right but you have TCP on port 5000 so maybe it is right. You need to put in the local IP address of your computer running the server.
For troubleshooting, use https://www.canyouseeme.org This will verify the Port Forwarding is setup correctly. Server needs to be started before using this tool.

Also perhaps google "xfinity router port forwarding"

My router does exactly the same thing. You can access the scanner feed locally, but if you try to connect from the outside address (while on the same network) it can't connect. If you try to connect from outside the network at some other location (not the same network) it all works fine.

You DO NOT port forward the scanner's IP you port forward the IP of the computer running the software.

Now, another question. When listening (on network or off) the site wants to update itself forcing me to hit the play button every time. Is this normal? Also, does this RadioFeed program work with the SDS 200? I'd probably get the full program, if I decide to get the scanner.
