Hoping someone can help me out here , I picked up a apx4500 and wanting to use it as a police scanner for Vallycom , I know they switched to digital but I’m fairly new to this and would like some help with how to program my radio for valley com or if there’s any shops that can program my radio around the Seattle area?

I don't know of any Radio Shops. Keep us updated on how that goes. What is a Radio like that going for? Hopefully the police in your area don't go encrypted. Like in other areas.

why? There is no way to get a "key" as a non subscriber except through an agency that you're authorized to have access

How can I be a subscriber? I’m sure there’s other ways besides getting a key right?

Who said anything about trying to get a key?
Well it's kind of required in order to program the radio. But I guess those details are not important.

To the OP, don't bother. The system will be encrypted later this year.

There goes my money down the drain, didn’t they say they’ll go encrypted Q2 of 2026?

And even a better option a Unication G4 or G5, nicknamed the Uniden killer.

Yes, I have a G4 and G5.

I do feel as consumer devices the scanners are easier for newbies to program

Each has it's uses. Not everyone wants to just monitor on site/system like on the Unications. I use both scanners and pagers to monitor public safety
