IlKase ?

Hello,

Re the new case for the 500 from IlKase:

Is it leather, or...?

Happy with it ?

Any other possibilities from other sources ?

Thanks,
Bob

I don't have one yet; LilKase had my 500 over the weekend for pattern-making. There's a FAQ on their site that says the material is "leather-like" and is called "Whisper" (TM). I know this stuff has gotten good online reviews from users in the past. It seems the LilKases fit nice and snug but are easy on/easy off. I'll post pics when I get a case (not sure when that'll be). I can say that Dave at LilKase if a very nice, professional guy. Their prices sure seem more than fair, too.

I just ordered mine, too. I've had one on my Pro-96 for a year or more and it has performed perfectly. I especially like the case because it is not bulky, like the regular leather ones.
Hope this helps,

Just ordered one as well. For my money, you can't beat these radio cases from L'il case.
I've had many and they are of a soft leather type material that is very durable, and fit the radios like a glove. The price aint bad either!

Thanks to L'il case for beating everyone else to market with this case, and to Todd for allowing his scanner to be used ....

when anyone gets it, can you tell me if you get a bad glare from the sun while in the car? I have a case on my 396 that is mounted in my truck, and the clear plastic piece creates a horrible glare making it hard to read. This might just be inevitable for cases with that plastic piece. o well. thanks.

You're quite welcome... I was happy to loan them my '500 as I had other radios to use making it much less of a hardship to be without it for a while.

I also ordered this morning. I would like a hard leather case but will pay the 20.00 right now to protect my investment. Thanks

Anyone think that a notch or window for the LED would be helpful? I'm not sure it could be seen from the front.

Hello,

I think so. The LED can only be seen from the top of unit once inside the LilKase. However, its a great case. :) Good snug fit, fast shipping, and feels good in hand. Even if the LED can't be seen, I still would recommend it.

Is there any way you could punch a hole where the led light is? That is a very important feature that I don't want to miss.

Sure you can, You can probably use a hole punch or some tiny scissors to have a cut out.

Missing LED window

I have received my PSR 500 case from Lilcase. I used an exacto knife to cut a notch in the upper corner of the case to expose the LED. Looks like they didn't turn on the scanner when they made the case to see that you really need to expose the the LED. Not a big deal to trim it. The case could also use more speaker holes. I'm going to look for a leather punch (I know the case is not leather) the same size as the current holes and punch some more into since the sound is not as bright with 95% of the holes covered.

Speaker Holes ?

Hi,

Think I'll have to "punch" some more holes in the case for the speaker also.
Really not enough, by far.

I guess like most folks, I don't own a true hole-punch.

Haven't tried it yet, but my guess is that trying to use a drill bit is going to leave an awful lot of "fuzzies" around each hole.

Anyone do it yet ?

Other suggestions ?

Think if I returned it, along with other purchasers, they would re-do the hole pattern for the speaker and make it larger ? Worth calling them about ?

Overall, I'm happy with my case. A few suggestions in case the manufacturer is reading this thread:

I've been debating what to do about the LED visibility. If I were making the cases, I'd be tempted to make the case slightly (3/16 inch) taller so that the LED access could be by a punched hole rather than weakening the top seam. Not a big deal to me. (The LED is nice, but, to me, more a gimmick than a necessary feature.)

I noticed the same issues with the speaker holes that others have mentioned. More holes would make sense, but they don't really interfere much with the sound of mine. Too many would probably cause the fabric to eventually rip.

And being really picky, I might try to use round holes instead of square cuts for the power cable hole and the PC cable hole, and some Velcro for the strap instead of a metal snap. The current snap design leaves the end of the strap flopping loose.
