Does anyone else have a psr-500 with a volume knob that sticks? No I'm not talking about the "click" to turn it off. There seems to be almost another "click" at about the 9 oclock position that is present about 50% of the time. At first it didn't bother me that much, but it is becoming very annoying now. I wasn't planning on doing anything about it, but now that I think about it, I don't want a 500 dollar scanner to break bc of a stupid volume knob. I have no idea why it does this. I dont know if it is a defective potentiometer or what. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Andrew

I have it too... At first I thought maybe some coke or coffee found its way in there, so I cleaned it with an alcohol pad, let it seep in and rotated the knob.

No change.

Just checked mine, smooth through the full range.

However, I've noticed that my squelch knob is fairly loose and turns much too easily. I'm constantly having to adjust it after moving the volume control.

i dont have a problem with the squelch knob. that is one thing i was worried about when i learned that the 500 had the 2 knobs in one.

I don't have the sticky volume knob but I have fat fingers and whenever I lower the squelch threshold I seem too always inadvertantly lower the volume as well.

I noticed the same "sticky volume knob" problem today. I hope this is not a sign of a bigger problem to come.

I hope it isn't a 'wear' issue. Mine is working fine and I never noticed an issue with it. Squelch knob feels like it got a shot of WD40 but everything is A OK. My unit has a serial number less than 1220. Maybe only a certain group produced?......

I played with one in the 1200 serial number range and another in the 1500 range and neither had a sticky volume or squelch.

My volume doesn't stick but the squelch knob will move a slight amount when the volume "inner knob" turns, especially when turning it on. My radio is in the 12xx range.

No problem with sticking, and no significant problem with interaction between the two knobs. SN in high 1100s. If any manufacturing changes are made to address this, I'd like to see the volume control be less sensitive, especially at the low end. Much of the listening I do is with the volume barely above minimum level, to not disturb others. Even a very slight adjustment goes too high or too low.
