Hi to all,

I had purchased a GRE PSR-700 scanner about 1.5 years ago. After having it for only 2-3 months, the scanner stopped functioning, only to show a "fatal error-no database on SD card" (or something to that effect) on the LCD. I didn't do anything to erase it (that I'm aware of), but tried troubleshooting it to an extent, and then put it in a drawer. I recently came across it, and would really like to get this scanner going again...it's practically brand new! When it DID work, it worked very well, I really liked the ease of operation.

So, my fellow RR aficionados... I come to you asking for your help. My question: How do I re-load the RR database onto the SD card?

I really hope I'm able to resurrect this!

As always, thank you very much in advance!

Have you tried formatting the SD card and putting the library back on the card? You can do the formatting and loading with the EZScan program.

I HAVE to be missing a small (but important) step...

Hi to all,

Well, after playing around with the scanner software (PSR-700 EZ Scan-SD), and consulting with a friend of mine, I'm still stumped. I've tried the "copy configuration to SD card", "Copy library to SD card", and other seemingly simple, straightforward options...all in vain. It seems as if I'm missing a small step, does anyone have any thoughts? This has now become an obsession...

Help!!!

Have you tried a different SD card and or a hard reset of the radio?

No, I haven't tried a different SD card; however, I have reformatted this one. Whenever I've performed any of the aforementioned functions (load library to card, etc.), I've never received any prompt telling me that something went wrong. As for resetting the scanner, whenever I turn it on, it displays the "FATAL ERROR: NO FILES ON CARD" prompt, and doesn't allow me to perform any other functions.

If it were my radio, I would try a new card first and if that didn't work I would try to do a cpu firmware update, thru the EZ scan software. If you don't have a different card, try the firmware update and see what happens.
Cory, just for kicks take the SD card out of the radio and put the batteries back in, start the radio and see if the radio has the message "FATAL ERROR: SD Card is not inserted". If it does I would say the card is bad.

On a side note, when the batteries are low, strangely enough I get a "fatal SD-Card read error"
If I put in fresh batteries or put my scanner on external power the problem goes away, etc.

In EZ-Scan, drop down on the "SD Card" menu to prepare your SD-Card for use and check the boxes
to copy current config and library files as well as to perform a quick format (FAT file system, etc).

Also, I have seen 3 original 2GB SD-Cards flake out totally - not allowing formating, read or write, etc.
These cards had gotten zapped and once they were swapped with a new 2GB card and reloaded
as I decribed above the boot up error problems all went away.

This Doctor says: Try all the above new card prep steps on 2 new batteries and or external USB power
and call me in the morning ;) It never hurts to have a backup card as well, even an old 1GB card works.

I actually did that...and got that very prompt. Hmmmm....

Well, I tried reformatting the card like you suggested, all without luck. I'll have to try a new card and see what happens. Thanks much for the advice, I'll let you know what happens.

(low) voltage sensitive

I wonder if all the cards you have are the same brand and/or the less expensive units. It sounds to me like the cards you're using have some voltage sensitivity (more so than others). You might need to "hand select" some cards using low batteries to see what works best at low voltage.

Are you doing this thru the scanner ? If so take card out of scanner and try it with a card reader on computer.

Make sure you are selecting the correct drive in e z scan program.

To double check open my computer insert sd card and see what drive pops up when you insert card.

Select that drive in ez scan .

This is the only step I can see you may be missing .

Clam, these 3 cards that failed over years were from various customers Pro-107's units.
These were the OEM brand with the "i-Scan Database" blue label as shipped from GRE.
Once I preppred some new Sandisk branded 2GB cards I never saw another failure, etc.
I have cutomers that regularly come in for an "updated" load every few months and I try
to always have at least 1 extra SC-Card with me in a case tucked away in my work bag.
Once I get their card home that night I click prepare for use, format, copy library and config.
Then the next guy gets that one and so on. I always test in my Pro-107 before exchanging.
The junk pile of 3 OEM cards I have here won't do anything but hang up then not read or write.
I just get various errors even when using 3 different USB card readers and different PC's and ports.
Bottom Line: The bulk of these OEM cards were from the 2010 period and just became bad over time.

I don't know if I'm following you here. What do you mean by "hand selecting" some cards using low batteries? Should I use a different card or different battery?

Thank you for your input. I think that, between everyone who has offered advice, we'll get this puppy up and running!

I've done this both with the SD card in the scanner and in the laptop's card reader. I haven't has any luck with either.

My PSR700 also stopped working, which led me here. Short story is yes it turns out the factory GRECOM SD card failed. Luckily I had 2 backup cards and more on the HD.

But then decided to check all the updates incl. the CPU Firmware for which there was no update to 1.7 leaving the PSR 700 locked with the "Wait for PC/IF" signal" I think was the message. Panic sets in, none the keys work, tried everything 3x, well everything 'cept to let it run the Update anyway, "Update My Scanner" - that did it :p

When the Update is completed it releases the scanner and powers it OFF. This is good.

So to me it acts like it is a bug in the EZ Scan software when the update version matches the online Update version, it never tells the PSR 700 "We are done here" go away.

HTH
