psr 800 audio quality

I have tried ever which a way to improve the poor quality of the audio on this unit. I noticed the screen light flickers when audio was being received and decided to power the unit from the computer.

audio is much improved and no flicker of the screen light. it seems the tiny plugin transformer (?) with
the red led is insufficient.to power the unit. digital audio is much improved.

Sounds like you just need a bigger wall wart! Or you may have a defective one. I power my Pro-18, which is similar to your 800, with an orphaned Samsung phone charger. Rating is 780 mA and it doesn't even get warm, but I don't use it to charge the batteries. USB wall warts are cheap or you might even already have one in a drawer somewhere...if it has a USB port, it will be regulated to the correct 5VDC to power your scanner. Just check the power requirements for your 800 and get one a bit bigger in continuous mA output than the unit needs...

I would caution against the use of some cheap chargers. After I first got my PSR-800, I used a $1 charger I got off eBay. It would work for a while then I would get an error on the screen. I figured out it was the microSD card that went bad. I had it replaced under warranty and after receiving the replacement, it happened again. After the second time I stopped using the cheap charger and have never had any issues. Also, I would suggest getting a separate battery charger and not use the scanner to charge.

I made the post due to the many audio complaints ive seen and read about for the 800. my neighbor
has the same problem with his 800.
I am powering the 800 from the usb port on win 7 (64) which does not recognize the scanner.i think its important to have the 800 turned off when plugging into the usb. using win xp, I lost all data when I plugged in with the power on. but that is another topic for a later date.
the audio is excellent and the battery is charged when the 800 is turned off. my preference is for the
800 to be a stand alone . so I will look for a direct replacement for the 800 power supply which (imho) is responsible for the poor audio.

Using XP or 1980 CPM has nothing to do whatsoever with any issue you had with losing data. It is well document on RR that you should always turn off your PSR800 (or 1080) whenever you change power source to the scanner (A/C to Battery; Battery to USB, etc).

The old adage that 95% of all PC issues and scanners issues too are caused between the computer chair and the keyboard and most likely applies with your XP issues.

Hi all, Ive had issues with screen flicker issues on my PSR800's. I put it down to low power on some USB supply's, when on batteries or on a iPhone charger it works fine. I notice too if your powering it off a computer it helps to run a powered USB hub. some computers I've found lack the output on a usb port on computers cause issues paticuarly with volume levels above 22.
