need information, in group scan mode the top line of display shows /TG then signal strength, I cannot find anything that informs me what the / indicates

I'm not sure what you mean by group scan mode as this is a term that does not appear in the user's manual.

Can you post a picture of your scanner's screen so we can see what you are referring to?

Clarification by group I mean trunked group not conventional which is what the (T) indicates and I know the (G) stands for global and if a (F) was where the (/) is it means it is funtion mode but (/) is a mystery so far.

There is no such symbol as "/" in the PSR 500 manual. You have something strange going on. Perhaps a Factory Restore might clear up that symbol. Be sure you have a saved copy of your configuration before doing a Factory Restore.
