Some of the problems I have is the 800mhz P25 systems maybe this change will help. One thing I have done is on conventional P25 I turn off the AGC digital setting it give it a clearer sound.

Slick! That cleared up the digital audio immensely! I wonder if the AGC tries to pull up the background noise up to the same level as the voice?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

So what settings do you recommed for the 197? What should I do to increase it's abilty to pull in weaker signals

Express settings for P25

Could someone give all the different Expert settings that you changed for P25 800 trunking and their new settings.
We are starting to get more P25 in Florida with rebanding.
Thanks Ed

Any changes to the expert settings are at the expense of something else. The best settings for most operations are the defaults which is the best balance. You cannot make something better without making something else worse.

Here in the Chicago area listening to the ILL-Starcom all my GRE500 does on most towers is sit there and "flicker" and gives crap decoding, my Uniden 396XT sits there and "decodes" the same towers "perfect"...I wish i knew the settings that were in the Uniden so i could set them in the GRE500...I have a RS197 that decodes very well, so i have heard the RS models made by GRE are better??...The only tower the GRE500 decodes very well is the "standalone tower in Grundy Co=T125, it can't hack the multisite like the Unidens??...l

I did a little more testing with the settings, I went up on each one value and I also went up on 96VC XF TO ( I went to 125 from 100) it sounds like it is receiving the P25 800mhz trunking better. Maybe slowing down the scanner is helping. Maybe Don S. can add to it if this makes any sence.

SQ Wait 1 Squelch wait time, same band 10 1-200, x1 ms In-band SQ Timeout
Squelch Time Same Band.-------10 to 11

SQ Wait 2 Squelch wait time, new band 15 1-200, x1 ms Out-of-band SQ Timeout Squelch Time Different Band.-------15 to 16

96VC XF TO Length of time to wait for P25 voice channel digital IMBE timeout.

The second line in a PSR600 with the 1.7 firmware is "Color 0" and "Scan Wait....." doesn't appear anywhere.

Thanks for that hint, Airbender. I thought I had a "special" PSR600 that didn't have those choices indicated by Steve earlier. How'd you find that "secret" access? Any others you'd like to share? BTW, I didn't notice any real big improvement that the others had, but good to know where the settings are.

Expert Settings

Is there any real reason that i should monkey around with the default settings on 106-197-500 scanners.I made a couple of adjustments with info from this forum and from the manual. Not seeing any difference.Any adjustments that will make a difference will be considered

I don't like a noisy squelch tail from a scanner so I like reducing RF Squelch Fade by a few milliseconds.
