The best way is to use PSREdit, Win500, or ARC500 programs to view, change, upload/download from the radio.

Without the software all you need to do is load them into the memory, edit what you want and then save them.

How would all this affect my current memory? I have noticed that every time I upload to my PC using either Win500 or ARC500 it tends to want to erase the scanner's memory, and I have to reload everything. I have had to reprogram the scanner three times because of this.

Yes, it overwrites the current memory in the scanner when you upload or transfer from a V-Scanner. You need to save the current contents to a memory file in the program, or to a V-Scanner. Every time you make a change to the objects in the active memory file, then send it to the radio, it changes the amount of memory used.

When you transfer data from the scanner to your PC, Win500 won't erase the scanner's memory.

You used the word "upload"... perhaps you're selecting "Upload to scanner" in Win500? If you want to move data from the scanner to the PC, you need to select Win500's "Download from scanner" menu item.

Without software use PGM FUNC PGM load the v-folder you want to edit. Edit what you want then PGM FUNC PGM, save the V-folder where you got it from and you are finished.

Remember you can only edit the working memory. So any folder you want to edit has to become working memory.

Much easier to spend $35 and get one of the software packages.

At the risk of repeating others, your best solution (using a software package) is to download from the scanner to the computer whatever is in your current memory. Then you can edit and add to it, and reload it with nothing lost.

While you certainly can edit straight from scanner memory, it can get pretty overwhelming. I went through a period of editing in that manner, but would never want to return to it.
