I Knew It.
Some debris just hit my house.
Actually they are acorns.
If we were holding all the cards, tariffs would not have been scaled back. This was folding under pressure and perhaps a realization that the world does not march to America's beat anymore.

Anyway, we can keep getting our cheap radios and other stuff from overseas, for a month at least.:)
I respectfully disagree, and to correct the numbers that I heard on the run, once I heard the president's press conference, it's 10% for all countries other than China for 3 months. The president did not raise tarrifs on China 105%, my clerical mistake, it's 125%.😗

"Believe It or Not" There is a method to all this madness and I can see you not agreeing.

At a time like this it's important that you get your information from the White House spokesman, cabinet members like Treasury and commerce and of course.. the president. If you follow news from the minority it will confuse and mislead the situation.

This is not a surrender, it's negotiation, the art of the deal. It depends on the country and it depends on how it's going to affect our economy, not theirs.

In his press conference the president made it known, there are 75 countries waiting to negotiate their own tariffs and he said China would make a deal. Not going to get political here!!!... but... have some faith in your leadership. 😉.

Well, we are flirting with politics which is taboo on this site. Let's just leave it right here and get back to radios. (y)
I understand more than you think I do.. but the two are intertwined.

I am focusing on the prices we pay for the stuff that we buy from china. I'm not concerned with Vietnam, I believe they're going to be taken care of and as hard as it is to believe for some of us over 70, they will be more of an ally than before.

The truth is you may not pay $35 for your bowel dung radio anymore.😁

Let's see what happens.

I'm sure most of you have seen this in the news...
Tariffs are being paused for 90 days... Except for China...

Thanks. I did see this late yesterday. A temporary reprieve on radio prices, at least those not coming out of China. Hard to say what happens next, with such erratic policy.

We never did get a satisfactory answer on how the tariffs might affect radio prices. I accepted the initial answer, assuming the person knew, but it did seem too simple. Maybe the economist who weighed in earlier will post a follow up.

China tariffs are going to affect us by having the prices of consumer electronics, of laptops, cell phones, televisions that are made in China will go up in price.

This is Uncharted Territory and no one is going to be able to give exact numbers yet, you can expect electronics that are made in China will go up in price. Give time to see how it unfolds.

Also inexpensive clothing made in China will go up in price and I imagine the dollar stores will be impacted but sticking to electronics, I expect the increase, will be very noticeable.

You simply cannot crunch the numbers to know exactly how much consumer electronics and inexpensive clothing will increase, that will reveal itself in time.

Negotiations are ongoing so anything can happen. Price gouging by American vendors is a possibility, also, initially we may have shortages of things like computers, cell phones, radio equipment and other consumer electronics like televisions as americans rush out to buy these items ASAP before they go up in price significantly. American stores and vendors could choose to raise the prices immediately even on stock they already have or it will be a slow process as tariffs are applied to new products as they arrive.

Source for this information is the opinion of Economist and journalists off of the internet. There isn't a lot out there yet as far as exactly how much more we're going to pay and when it's going to start.

I could also see the price of all electronics going up even if it's not made in China just to take advantage of the situation and help with the shortfall of inventory.

I think if we Google effects of China tariffs on a daily basis we will gain a lot more insight as time goes on.

I wish I had more information but let's stay away from speculation and predictions and stick to the actual events as they happen.

For what it's worth.. there are active negotiations going on as of this moment. China has announced that they are not going to escalate their tariffs any higher. They have been making counter offers with Washington

These sources are domestic and international news economic reports.. economists believe China does not want to go ahead with this arrangement and it will be a devastating blow to their economy.

It will essentially be an embargo on their products to the United States.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that these active negotiations going on right now are successful.

As it turns out I have been looking to purchase a new laptop, it's reported that 75% of laptops are made in China. I might go out today and test the waters, hopefully I will make a purchase, Chinese made or not.

I don't think so. It's not 1960 anymore, or even 1980. The world does not revolve around the US anymore. Anyway, the tariffs just took effect this morning, so we'll see what is scare tactics and what is not. Keep an eye on Amazon, HRO, Zip Scanners, etc for any jumps in radio prices.
Looks like the R8600 went up ...plus it,s out of stock now...if I did the math right? like roughly $120 maybe?
from it,s previous price yesterday when I checked... this is Uniden forum I know but would assume they are all
going to rise...Marcy

Yeah didn’t realize Walmart uses 3rd party sellers, thought it was via Walmart itself, if it sounds too good to be true it must be, looks like I’ll be running my proscan 2032 a bit longer
I didn't realize it the first time I placed an order either. Amazon does the same thing. At that price, it's way too tempting, and Walmart is known for their crazy discounts, so no doubt it seemed like the real deal.
