I just got a PSR800 and it seems to function properly except that it does not seem to read a P25 trunked system...

Its not even a Phase 2 system , however it is phase 2 capable but I know its not entirely phase 2 as of now because my Uniden 996xt receives it and that is supposedly not phase 2 capable...

I tried messing around with the "Data decode" function in the p25 system settings but that didn't seem to have any effect...

The only thing I can think of now is that while everything else programs correctly, it may have something to do with the fact that it does not let me update the firmware or the DSP...
When I try to update the firmware it kind of "freezes" for a few minutes(which would be understandable because from what I understand the psr800 programs rather slowly in general) only to say "There was a problem communicating , disconnect and reconnect the USB cable"

Dead fan DarkStar...?

So you're updating the DB's via the cable or just trying to do the firmware?

For the DB updating I recommend using the micro/adapter directly not the USB.

I get the same message when using the USB for anything and it takes several attempts until it actually "accepts it".

As for P25, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be working properly. The 996 is not phase 2 capable and the 800 is. It seems more in line with possibly updating/loading things incorrectly into your scanlists.

In EZScan under Trunked Radio Systems tab>Trunked Systems Site Information>Site Options is the Trunking Table set to "Auto Fill"? Should be if not.

I don't think this is your issue, but I just wanted to remind you that originally the PSR-800 could not decode TDMA (P25-Phase II). It wasn't until October of 2012 that GRE released a couple of beta firmware updates before it could decode a Phase II system.

Like I said this may not be your issue right now, but until you can get the firmware update issue fixed you may not be able to monitor a Phase II system.

darkstar350, does it decode digital voice if you search 501 to 503? when the scanner is connected to the computer, assuming your using windows run the checkdisk program in case the sdcard in the scanner is corrupt. also could plug the scanner into a different usb port on the computer

Thank you all for the responses :)
And yes I did get the P25 system to work by setting it to "Auto Fill" so at least that's solved...

It still does not let me upgrade the firmware - however I am not even sure if the firmware is up to date or not...
When I put it on the update mode(by holding the menu button down at start) the screen reads this-
"uP Boot Ver:F1.0
uP App1 Ver:U1.8"

PSR-USB issue

I had a similar issue with my PSR-800 where USB would not recognize the radio. Finally figured out it was someting strange with the USB cable I was using, even though it seemed to work perfectly with other devices.
Before you get too discouraged, try a couple of different USB cables. I also found my PSR800 will not work
with any Micro SD card except SanDisk cards. Now using a SanDisk Ultra 8gb card that works really good.

When you have the scanner connected to the computer while running
Xp or windows 7 right click the hardware icon in the lower
Right corner, select device to safely remove to prevent SD card corruption

Looks like your firmware is updated to version 1.8, need the latest
DSP update version 1.3. In ez scan goto update menu, then check DSP
Firmware update. Then Copy configuration to scanner

If it doesn't work update or reinstall the driver in windows device manager

Much thanks again all :D

I did "seem" to get it to update the firmware, but on update mode it still displays the same thing it said before I "updated" it...
So my question now would be - with the "uP Boot Ver:F1.0
uP App1 Ver:U1.8" firmware - does that mean it is phase 2 capable? or is that a different firmware update?

The update that contains phase 2 ability is CPU version 1.8 and you have it. Phase 2 talk groups will say d2
If it doesn't work connect the headphone jack on scanner to the line in on the computer sound card and
Run the DSD program that decodes phase 2 voice

The DSP firmware needs to be at version 1.3 to decode P-25 Phase 2... When I updated to CPU firmware version 1.9, the DSP firmware *some how* rolled itself back to version 1.1, which nuked my ability to monitor Phase 2. Quickly fixed with the EZ-Scan update function.

I have found that the Uniden cable for the BCDx36HP's will work for scan list/library updates but for CPU/DPS I need to use the GRE PSR-800 cable.

Interesting. The PSR-800 uses a generic USB to miniUSB cable, however its unsigned 32 bit driver causes issues/is unstable with all my Win 7/8 Pro 64 bit machines.

So according to the software all my firmware is up to date...
However when I put the screen into update mode it still says the same thing as I posted previously...

Other than that it seems to be working fine...
