Sedgwick County Upgrade

From the Sedgwick County Website this week:

Highlights of the 2027 budget include:

• Prioritize enhancements to mission-critical County services and address key functions.
  • $14.5 million replacement of the 911 radio system

From what I've heard, this will replace all their 10 site simulcast repeaters, reducing channel capacity from 20 to 15, some Phase 2 TDMA is possible but not confrmed, and.......drum roll.....it will become a site on KSICS, no longer its own standalone system.

We shall see. KSICS is at its end of life just like Sedgwick and Shawnee counties. The bidding process is scheduled for next year. It will be interesting to see who wins i.e. Motorola, Harris, etc.

What's your thought on it be coming part of KSICS system? Do you think it will happen?

There may be some linking to KSICS between the two systems. Here in JOCO we have a trunk group assigned to KHP Troop, and the two ar connected so you can hear KHP on both systems. Also gives KHP interop between the systems.

They should be a part of KSICS. Currently there are two mobiles connected to Avtec Scout. SO / Law dispatchers combine on one channel on the state system along with Resource / Ops on another during a system down situation. Being on KSICS would be much better for situations of pursuits going out of county as well.

Connecting the two systems makes sense, however KSICS system is not designed to handle all the traffic of Sedgwick County.

They should expand the KSICS Wichita site to a simulcast system using the sites Sedgwick County already operates while also adding capacity. It’s what should have been done in 2013. Currently Sedgwick County has colocated equipment at the KDOT tower, and in Andover. They would need to replace all of the repeaters because they are Tait.
