• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've got a Motorola CDM 1550 LS+ VHF. I have the MDC signaling set up. How can I set it up to where when I key up it sends my unit ID number to a radio and i can see other unit ID numbers when they key up?
Im not seeing an option on the CPS to do so.

Not sure about your radio, but for the Astro Spectra, it's under "Radio Configuration" and then under "Display & Menu" and then under the "PTT" tab. Make sure "ID Display" is checked.

On the CDM software under each conventional personality (where you enter the freq and tones) is a signalling tab. Go to the channel(s) you want the ID to transmit on and change the TX signalling to MDC-1 (or whatever MDC system you set up). You will also need to select pre- or post- ptt to select whether the ID is transmitted before you talk or after. We set ours for post. Setting the receive to MDC will allow the radio display to show the id's of other units.

This may help:

Step 1: Define an "MDC System":

From the "Feature" drop-down, go to "Signaling" "MDC System".

If more than 1 system, select the system you want to use with the personality at issue; otherwise, stick with System #1.

Under "Primary ID", type in the ID you want to send. Note: valid MDC IDs are 4-digit hexadecimal numbers, with the following limitations:

"0000" is not permitted.

"F" is not permitted in any digit.

"E" is not permitted in the first digit.

Under "PTT-ID Type", select Pre-Only or Post-Only, as you choose.

Select check or uncheck for "Sidetone" and "PL". (As a practical matter, check both. The sidetone prevents you from talking over your ID, while the PL insures that the ID will pass through the repeater.)

2) Step 2: Point your Personality to the MDC System.

Go to the personality you want to send the PTT-ID. Under "Signaling" "Tx System", select the MDC system you wish this personality to use. Note: you have to use the drop down menu, and only validly defined MDC systems will appear. Ignore systems of any other type.
