Got one of those too. That's NVRAM, no battery needed to maintain the data. But a clock, somethings got to power the tick/tock to keep it going :)

I love my 436 you don't have to program it. All you need is your computer .Uniden does all the work for you . Like all the other scanners .I think the new 396P2 you will have to program .
