• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Yes the Puxing-PX888 can lock out field programmability as well. So locking out the programming from the keypad is rule.... What about RX only channels, is there rule on that? If I am a huge Taco Bell fan, and I get my rocks off listening to customers order Gorditas from 3 blocks away on a Wouxun Radio, as long as I am not transmitting on that frequency I am not breaking the law right?

LOL Oops, I am breaking the law as far as the FCC is concerned, obviously doing that would be like stalking. But RX only is ok on any band correct?

You seem to be a bit in the dark about the do's and don'ts in the radio industry as well as how this works for hobby use, judging by all your posts here recently.
I'm only suggesting this but maybe some more study and reading on the subject might be in order here.

I love reading and thank you for the links. I will be reading them tonight.

The only reason I am posting so many questions here is because everyone has told me that this site is THE resource for educating myself. I typically read a considerable amount prior to posting any question. The problem is there are so many people out there that don't abide by laws I just can't trust what people say is ok without multiple views. Already here on this very forum I have seen several conflicting views on what is acceptable and what is grey. Not to mention all the people on youtube that think everything is acceptable.

I ask the amateur area alot of questions on functionality because you guys know your stuff. I ask the pro area on legality so that I don't get myself in trouble. Using this forum I have determined that FRS, GMRS, Cellular, HAM bands, VHF and MURS are unacceptable for my needs. I have indeed learned more here than it appears, but I will certainly be reading those links.
