The links there are very helpful. Download the manual for the ap73.

I might also add that there is a dealer programming mode that you'll probably want to know about it. Google it... it's out there. The radio doesn't need software or cables to get it to program. You need the operating manual, and probably the service manual.

That's not a "problem". The radio is in what they call the 'MHz mode'. If you download the AP73 manual, and actually read it, you will see how to get from 'MHz mode' to 'Memory mode'.

It's not a chip that needs to be removed, it's a jumper. The operator manual doesn't say how to do that. You will have to get the service manual. But before you do, try changing frequencies and storing it in memory. Again, the manual will show you how. If you can plug frequencies in while in MHz mode, the jumper is already out.

RTFM.

If you've read the manual, and tried everything it says to unlock and switch modes, it's possible that your radio isn't working properly. The manual clearly shows how to unlock the radio, I've never had an issue with mine - it just works. I don't have access to the service manual, perhaps getting one is your next step.

Here's some links to read on, maybe something here will help:

I Googled 'gp68 dealer programming mode' and came up with 58 hits with lots of interesting info. Give it a try and see what you can come up with.

I figured why i couldnt leave the frequency mode: some buttons were 'loose'.i managed to program a few channels, thanks for the links you provided zz0468. I tried it with my cheap Cobra radio....I could barely hear the Cobra with my GP68. Any reason? Thanks for your help.

'Loose' buttons... Hmmm... At this point, I have no clue what's going on. Best to find some friendly radio tech who can lay hands on the radio and see what's wrong. Good luck!
