How much memory does a single frequency take and how much do the components (sites/talk-groups) of trunking systems take?

First this isn't general scanning, it's a programming question, secondly each program is different depending on how and what it saves but you didn't tell us what you are using, finally the amount of memory talkgroups and sites takes obviously depends on how many of each and size of entry.

That said, my answer is not much, but the bigger the system the more memory it will take.

I use ProScan. I just wanted to know the byte size of a frequency or item or a talkgroup. I need to determent for when I get a micro SD card scanner

currently getting a BCD325P2, but this is a question for the flagship model ones.
You're not going to run into a memory limitation when importing a DMA database to a BCDx36HP/SDSx00 favorites lists,
But if you want to know, use a text editor to view the database file. Look for a line that starts with CIN for conventional frequencies and TIN for each talk group id.

The complete Radio Reference Database for the US and Canada is included on a 4 GB micro SD card with locations programmed
that is from marks scanners and is probably in the manual

so start with a 4 GB and you will not have to worry about size.

Just to give you a point of reference, the entire North American (USA and Canada) database that Sentinel loads onto the SD card only takes up around 58 MB.

Well, you can't hardly find a new 4 GB micro SD these days. The high endurance, which is recommended run about $9.00 for a 32 GB, (the maximum allowable). So price probably isn't an issue.

I do suggest getting two, one of them for a spare.

The 'memory capacity' for the 325P2 is listed as 25,000 channels.

For the database scanners, BCDx36HP and the SDS series, you are limited to a Favorites list size of no more than one megabyte. As Bob has noted, even some of the larger statewide systems would still not exceed that on a memory card. Plus, if you did load so much in one file that it's over the 1Mb limit, you can always use one or more additional Favorites lists to handle additional systems. You can have up to 256 lists,
Well I plan to have whole state systems programmed when I travel including my whole state.

Just as a test, I appended your entire statewide system, MPSCS, to a blank Favorites list. It used 629KB. That fits into a single Favorites list, with room to spare. And as noted above, everything for the US & Canada only takes 52MB.

But if you are traveling across much of the state, or even neighboring states, outside your home territory, it's infinitely easier to just use a GPS & location control using the full database, instead of trying to program everything.
