Changes

Hi Eric:

I made trhe changes you suggested. I am not sure what I Call is, but I will look in my manual. Also changed the delay from 5 to 2.

Thanks

ATC Files for Hamilton Ontario?

Eric wrote:

Again, I urge you to either ask for files or get files that are relevant for your area on ARC software yourself. When you download them to the ARC software you can see how they are made and how they look.

Eric- i am using BCtool for the transfer back and forth to the scanner. Does thatb support ARC files? Any idea where I can get an ARC file for Hamilton Ontario?

Sorry to be a pain with all these questions

Thank-you. A few more questions:

I am wondering if I should program in the alternate control channels in addition to the red control channels. I notice that most of the activity if from one particular georgraphical area, and it may be that the others are using alternate control channels? Would it hurt to put them in?

Also, when someone is transmitting, I get this drop out in sound, every 4 secoinds or so. It's like there is 4 seconds worth of voice, then abouy a half second drop out of sound, and then the voice continues. It's a little frustrating. Is this a setting i have wron/? Happens on every transission on the police group i set up.

Thanks again. Sorry for the large images. Will use jepg next time.

You should program all the 'red' channels. Any of them can be used as the c/c at any time.

Follow this thread to see why:

http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118786

As you can see there is a 4th control channel to punch in. I did not find it but no one else has submitted it yet so i will that after this thread

Toronto as well as Hamiltons Fleetnet tower have used the alternates from time to time, better to be prepared.

As for the drop in sound I am not sure... my guess is that you are running it in Priority mode? Disable that function is my guess.

Icalls are 'private calls' between two units. Hamilton (and Halton) use them from time to time, the talk group indicator will probably show a large number (as opposed to talkgroup #'s such as 80 112, 144, etc).

Enable it, you never know what you might hear.

There are a multitude of other systems as well as conventional systems. If you need advice message or PM me I am home today.

Status Update

Here is a status update:

I did not have 4 CC's programmed in. Only 3 of the 4. So i followed the link and found out the 4th and keyed it in. Thanks for that.

Yes, I do have close call programmed in. I will toggle it off and see if that fixes that sound drop out problem i described. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the explanation for I Call. I have left it enabled.

I will let foklks know how this works out. I am having fun getting back into scanning, so i really appreciate all of the help.

I am still looking for some sort of ARC file? that would include many of the hamilton ontario frequencies, but until i find one, at least I am starting to get the hang of keying in frequencies myself. You were right- the software makes it a lot easier to do.

Thanks again

Cal

Also..wondering if I should delete the pre-programmed stuff that came with my scanner. It's all U.S. based frequencies and it takes up about 70% of the memory.
