I've noticed I'm not hearing the Johnson City fire department anymore on the p25 system ems and Co fire still works great but the city fire department just went silent did they change or go encrypted if anyone knows.
ETSU police is still on phase 1. THP is still in the clear for the moment, and they're phase 2. I tend to agree with you -- not sure it's worth the money & effort to switch over, unless you really want to hear THP.I'm thinking about getting the phase 2 but don't know if it would be worth my time and money since I still get EMS and county fire
On my SDS200 I'm seeing "ENCRY" on TGID : 30431 JCFD DISP and on TGID : 30441 WASH EMSDISP. I noticed the same thing you did early last week plus a lot of fire and EMS activity on mutual aid and interop then silence on them all. If there's anyone else local that can also confirm this it would be appreciated.Okay - you're onto something. Within the last 24-48 hours, something about the way calls are being dispatched seems to have changed. And (surprisingly) it doesn't appear to be that the talkgroups are now encrypted.
I'm using a Uniden BCD436HP and have it locked onto the Washington County site in ID search mode (which will show the numerical TGID even if I don't have it stored with alpha tags in my scanner). I still hear infrequent "ancillary info" updates in the clear for both fire and EMS, but it's like the entire initial dispatch (raising the responding units, acknowledgement by responding units, dispatch of call details - location, nature, etc..., units establishing that they are en route and then on scene) has just disappeared entirely. I've watched the display on my scanner for several hours at this point and am just not seeing the talkgroups being used like they were. It definitely "looks" different than what I see with the agencies that we know are encrypted (TWRA region four, WCSO, JCPD, JBPD) -- those talkgroups will still briefly appear on the display until the scanner determines the traffic is encrypted. With both fire and EMS, I'm just not seeing those talkgroups appear on the display like that with the "ENC" label. On the rare occasion the scanner does pick up traffic on those talkgroups now, it's still bidirectionally in the clear (regardless of whether it's being initiated by comm center or one of the responding units).
Ugh... I'll give it a listen tonight and confirm I'm seeing the same thing. Was hoping we would begin to see less 'E' activity but it sounds like the trend toward universal encryption sadly continues. On my SDS200 I'm seeing "ENCRY" on TGID : 30431 JCFD DISP and on TGID : 30441 WASH EMSDISP. I'm right with you... I can confirm that I was seeing the same behavior from the Buffalo Mountain site on my BCD436. Listened for quite some time last night and was only able to catch THP District 5 and ETSU Police in the clear.I'm so annoyed right now I don't know what to say.
I hear those and TGID : 30591 WASH CO FIRE, the most active fire and EMS are showing encrypted, including the hospitals.I'm right with you...
