There are FPP DMR radios. The b-tech 6x2 even lets you add talk groups from the keypad and is not much worse than putting in a conventional frequency with PL tones. The RFinder has a touchscreen that is very easy to use and can pull in data from the built in repeater finder software. The downside is the price and occasional software/firmware hickups

Mine was shipped from Yaesu within the same state I live and they didn't even charge tax.

Is the DR-2X Internet-ready? Or is an additional interface required?

The basic repeater 2m/70cm is $700 and the LAN adapter is $200 more.
