How active are they during the winter? I live in Allegan County, and I am in the Southwestern district, so I'd like to know how often they use their talkgroups during the winter. Additional question; do the snow plows use these talkgroups? What kind of plows use these talkgroups? Why I ask is, that I keep hearing about a garage on one of the talkgroups.

I don't know about Allegan County but in the Detroit area MDOT is probably not very active during the winter. Construction doesn't quit but it slows down and MDOT doesn't do snow removal, they contract that out to the counties.
What does MDOT do then with their talkgroups?
You'll hear activity during the winter, especially in the Lake Effect Snowbelt where you are. I think MDOT plows US-131 and I-196 in that area. Monitor the talkgroups for the Allegan Garage and Southwest Operations.
I don't know about an 'Allegan Garage' talkgroup, so I assume you mean 'Plainwell Garage?' In the database, it's listed as 'Plainville Garage' even though no city, town, or village with that name exists here in Michigan.
Yes, Plainwell Garage is what I meant. You may also want to try the Fennville Garage (it says Kalamazoo County in the DB, but that's wrong) and the South Haven Garage, depending on where in the county you are.
I pretty much have all the ones in my district and the grand valley district.
Do you know what the 'Southwest 1' and 'Southwest 2' talkgroups go to?

Not in the MDOT Southwest Region.
Honestly, I don't know why I had named talkgroups 6181 'Southwest 1' and 6182 'Southwest 2.' They belong to the statewide group, not southwest at all. Unless that's just how they were on the database before it updated, idk.

northeast Lower Mi the MDOT does most of the state road a few counties like Otsego Co contract an plow some of I-75 on dmr, east m-32 is done by MDOT as is m-33 an m-65

The only MDOT feed I get in Oakland County is "Freeway Courtesy Vehicle 1". Basically a dude helping people who are stuck on the side of the road.
I’m in Otsego , and I can’t get any traffic from MDOT or local road commission. I can get everything else . Not sure what’s going on .

last i knew Otsega co. was using dmr but here in oscoda . montmorency co MDOT is using MPSCS Tg 4163 as of this am. Hope this helps
I got the dmr upgrade yesterday for my sds 200. Im new to all of this and still not sure how to program it to listen .

I'm a yr or so into digital so new to alot to i haven't taken the jump to DMR yet. If you can't find anyone on forums check you Tube alotta help videos there.

I'm in southeast Berrien Co., and all state and US highways are plowed by MDOT, and they use MPSCS TGs as I see them listed. They may not use ALL listed TGs, and that should not be assumed. Only first-hand reports can verify usage.

The MDOT snow plows that work Kalkaska are on TG 4164 and are very active anytime there is a snow event. You might be a bit out of range to hear them in Otsego depending on what tower you listen to. As others have pointed out, some county snow plows are now using DMR depending on the county.
