I need assistance from someone who knows how to program my new Pro 96. The people at Radio Shack are much help at all. The last scanner that I had was a BC 580 xlt so obviously I am out of date with these new systems. LOL

The website that has the frequencies I wish to program in is at http://www.freqofnature.com/index.php?m=Washoe County I wish to install the "Primary Sites - Reno - Red Peak & Peavine Mountain" Do I need to put in all 15 frequencies?

There is an "updated' website of http://www.jts203.com/3-NevadaTrunking.htm
I don't see many differences between the two sites except the way they are formatted.

Am I supposed to put all these LCN's into one Bank or spread them out amongst the other Banks?

How do I determine which TalkGroups to install? All of them and then lock out the ones I don't want? I would like to be able to lock out some of them, such as those in "Washoe County School District". There seems to be a lot of chatter amongst the school buses and dispatch.

In your reply, please don't use abreviations as I probably won't know what they mean.

I have played around with Win 96 but I can't determine what I am supposed to do there either. I wish I was 30 again! I think my brain actually functioned in those days.

Thanking you ahead of time.

You have to enter EDACS systems in LCN order. Basically, channel 01 of the system in channel 01 of the scanner bank and so on. So yes, you need to enter all 15 freqs. Star them in channel 01 of the bank...NOT 00. (pic 1)

You determine which TG's (Talk Groups) to install based on what it is you want to monitor. Fire, police, etc...If you don't want to listen to Washoe Schools...don't program them. Or program them in their own TG list and turn it off until you want to hear them. (pic 2)

Check out the pics below...if you want to let me know what it is you want to monitor I can set up a P96 file for you and send it over.

You need to program all the LCN's for each site you want to monitor, with the channels in ED mode. The bank must be programmed as an EDACS bank. The freqs must be programmed in LCN order; LCN 1 in channel 1, LCN 2 in channel 2, etc. Do NOT put any LCN's in channel 0 (you can put a conventional non-trunked channel in there if you wish, or leave it empty). You can put conventional frequencies in the unused channels of each bank if you wish.

Each site must be in a separate bank. You can program the talkgroups you want to monitor into one or more sub-banks in each bank, and use the CLOSED mode, which will only monitor those talkgroups. OPEN mode will monitor all talkgroups, both programmed, and unprogrammed.

"Star them in channel 01 of the bank...NOT 00. (pic 1)"

There is my 1st mistake. I started the frequencies in Channel 0 of Bank 0. I put the talkgroups together by starting in Channel 01.

"Check out the pics below...if you want to let me know what it is you want to monitor I can set up a P96 file for you and send it over."

I live in Sparks and ideally what I would like to be in Bank 00 is the Sparks PD, then in Bank 1, the Sparks Fire folks, in Bank 2 the Washoe Sheriff, in Bank 3 the Reno PD, Bank 4 the Reno Fire folks, Bank 5 the NV Highway Patrol and mutual aid (PD and Fire).

If you could put togther Bank 00 and Bank 1 for me, I am sure I can do the rest. Well maybe I should say that probably I can do the rest. LOL

Do you know if there is a LifeFlight or AirMed frequency in my area? I have searched everywhere I can think of and can't locate one. Washoe Medical Center has a chopper that does medical evacs in this area.

Thank you very much for your assistance. I wish that you lived in my area because I feel that I should at least buy you lunch.

That is a good piece of information to know. Thank you much!

I used a program called "Snag It." It's a screen capturing software. You can do all kinds of things with it, add text, etc, etc.

I see that you are NOT a premium subscriber to RR. For just $7.50 for a three month period you can have access to all of the info on the site. It also will allow you to use the web import function in Win96. That means that you can download frequencies and systems directly from the website to a P96 file and it will set it up for you.

I will put together a file for you...Instead of wasting all of those banks why don't you just set up the system in one bank and put police in one TG list, Fire in another, EMS in another, etc, etc. You can have up to 5 TG lists in each bank, each with 30 TG's each. Your choice, I'll do it however you want it done.

And thank you, but there's no need for lunch...that's what this site is for...helping each other out!! Enjoy!!

What is required to turn off each of those TalkGroups? Can it be done by pushing just one button as if I was locking out a bank? Sometimes the traffic gets pretty heavy across the County and I am primarily interested in what happens in Sparks.

On the scanner itself while it is scanning the trunked bank hit PGM>TRUNK. This will put you into the scan lists for that bank. Press TRUNK to scroll through the scan lists...use the arrow keys to scroll through the individual TG's. Once you find the TG you want to L/O, just press L/OUT.
If you want to lock out an entire scan list...just scroll to that list as described earlier and press FUNC>1.
Let me know how you make out with the web import service. I will hold off on creating your P96 file until we see what you come up with on your own. I think you'll be fine. Let me know I'll be glad to help out.

Yeah, I think I'll go with putting the TalkGroups into different banks because it would be a daily occurrance when I want to listen to Sparks only.

I just looked at the mail box and the arm is still up which means that the mailman missed it yesterday. How long does it take for mail to get to San Antonio, Texas? Three or four days I would presume. So, it'll be a few days before I know the answer about the import service.

OK...snail mail may take a little while to get there and be processed. I'll work on a file for you in the meantime. Please drop me a PM with your email address so I can send it to you.

Thanks!!
