I'm curious to know about these.

For example, I see UID's for consoles, in the 5 digit range.

I see UID's, for portables/mobiles, in the 7 digit range.

How do they come up with these numbers?

Could there be portables/mobiles in the millions?

Are these numbers unique, meaning, are they assigned by state, the manufacturer (as in serial number?).

TIA.

It's probably up to the system operators (trunked and conventional) to issue and manage all radio IDs.

I don't know about FL but here in TX we have a Statewide Coordinated P25 Radio Unit ID Range Management Plan for public safety that is part of the Texas Statewide Interoperability Channel Plan.

Subscriber and talkgroup IDs are determined at the local level, meaning whoever owns the system and comes up with a fleetmap for the IDs. There is no "standard", the manufacturer doesn't care what you do, and I've never seen IDs tied to serial #s. Yes, some states have ID plans which normally only applies to a statewide system, but other than that it's pretty much no rhyme or reason.

The Entity that owns the system would set that up. No manufacturer standard or anything. Like GTR mentioned above.

I personally, absolutely love when whoever sets the system up keeps all the Radio IDs nice and organized. One P25 system I monitor has most of their IDs set up in a range so each department is assigned a certain amount of radios in a range.

Kind of like this:
Range 303xxx belongs to department A
Range 304xxx belongs to department B
Range 305xxx belongs to department C
Etc, etc

On the other hand, i have seen systems where there is no organization what so ever (Looking at you MRRS) and it seems as if the radios were just issued at random. I hate that.

Also just because a radio id is 1234567 doesn’t mean they have 1,234,567 radios in use on the system it just means that the entity that owns the system set it up that way.

I know they have a region plan set up in Florida, im not exactly sure what it is, i personally dislike it but it works i guess.

Like how one out of county subscribers would be in the 36xxxxx block and another county in the 60xxxxx block? Wonder what OCD weirdo came up with that scheme years ago?!? 😂
