hi i am about to install an antenna on the roof today when i go to ground the wire from the mast to a rod in the ground is it ok to tuck the wire behind the siding?
According to the National Electric Code you would ground to the electrical entry point of the house. If you install and connect the antenna mast to a ground rod the rod must be bonded to the house electrical entry point with at least #6 copper wire and there are distance restrictions on that. If you just install a ground rod and connect your new antenna to that it will not meet code and could have a voltage potential on the antenna ground compared to your house ground. See NEC Article 810.

If you want to be cheap and dirty, #8 or #10 aluminum wire to your cable tv ground rod and a hose clamp on your mast will work, but as mentioned it won't be up to electrical code. Do NOT ground to your gas meter, some have been dumb enough to do this.
