I've tried everything I can find on web/here to setup "Quick Keys" to have separate sites of same scanning data---just blocking some sites. Live in Maui. They have multiple sites that we cannot receive due to distance--when on one side of the island. Want a quick key for one side of island, able to change to another quick key when we travel to other side--which will block previous sites-and allow others now that are now in range. Does anyone have a "step by step" programming list to do this. Your help is appreciated.

One useful tip that I can provide - with trunked systems, departments and sites share the same pool of 100 quick keys (at least that's the case with the BCD435/536 and SDS100/200).

Not sure what model of scanner you have, but I have the SDS100 and encountered the same problem with some of the local systems that I monitor. Not much point in scanning sites that you have no hope of being able to hear due to distance. I tried with no avail to figure out the "quick key" system and all I got was a headache. So I setup separate favorite lists for each area, you can add as many or as few systems as you want per favorite list (I think there is a limit but I haven't reached it). I just turn on or off each favorite list depending on where I am and what I want to listen to. There is no way I could remember the site numbers for each site in multiple different systems, this would have just added to the gray hair I already have. I think it would have been been great if Uniden would have made it to where you could enable or disable sites and departments as the favorite lists are done from the menu but that isn't an option.

Since this is a Uniden forum, I'll guess you're using one of the scanners supported by Sentinel programming software. Programming is Favorites.System.Department/Site.Channel. Within a System, I group my Departments starting with QK 00 and I group my Sites starting with QK 99 and working downward.

As noted above, you have three methods to "turn off" sites:

1. Use Location Control (the scanner was designed for this)
2. Set the AVOID status for the too far away sites to "Avoid"
3. Use Quick Keys. (For Sites, these are at the Department Level)

The schema for Site/Department Quick Key toggling is FLQK . SQKY . SITE/DEPARTMENT QUICK KEY e/Yes. (The periods are necessary separators.)

And

4. Site Hold to prevent others from scanning (I do this most of the time) by FNC hold plus DEPARTMENT QUICK KEY. It will give you a confirmation when held or released.

Some don't use this, some do. Either case, it's an option.

There is no "site hold". Yeah there is a Department hold, that's NOT the same thing. Department hold will still scan all the sites.

On SDS100/200 & 436HP/536HP, using function plus department controls quick commands for sites. Everything programmed can either be "held", scanned, or "avoided". Just a matter of manipulating the command to do so.

Wrong. Press the FUNC key, then Department, and you will hold on the current site, rather than the current department.

I used to put sites for big systems like Virginia's STARS into quick keys. It worked, but then I got @jonwienke 's GPS mod. Best decision ever. I don't even lock out distant favorites lists any more. If they're too far away, they're ignored. As soon as I get in range, there they are! Check out unidenscanners.com

I have had the*36HP since they came out and then the SDS-100 when it was released. It took me until then to figure it out, at least for me. Favorite list has number 0 then the system has its own number 0. Departments and sites can have the same numbers. I never give departments and sites the same number. So Fire is 01, PD 02 etc for departments then once all the departments I want are in I keep the numbers going for the sites, site 1, 03, site 2, 03 and so. To turn off site 1 I just have to put in 00.00.03. I keep a list of my radio setup I my phones notes so I know what al the site numbers are for places I don’t go to frequently.

Yes there is. On the SDS100, press function then the middle key above #2 ("Site" soft key)
Thank you for correcting me. I searched the manual and found a section on this (man I do wish the manual was better organized).

I also see that the text in the soft key icons change when FUNC is pressed, but it times out in about 1 second. Pressing the FUNC key should persist until either the action is performed or the FUNC key is pressed again.

I agree the FUNC timeout is a bit short, but it shouldn't be indefinite. IMO bumping up to about 5 seconds would be ideal.

A timeout doesn't make sense. If I want to "cancel" the FUNC, I press it again. I often operate the scanner without looking at it -- such as when driving. Having functions time out like that is very problematic.

This is what I would would do.
I would make as many favorite lists there are for each site I want to listen to. Three sites, three favorite list, naming each one differently.
Assign each one a different quick key. Now go into sentinel or any other software you may be using for programming and edit out the sites you don't want for that list.
FL #1 Johns peak
FL #2 Pikes peak
FL #3 Smith Peak

This will work if you are using GPS as well.
Give this a try

@JoeBearcat

Ideally I would make it user-settable, but getting that changed in existing models might be a challenge.
