alright, enough is enough. has anyone had a problem with a long qoute being quoted and when you reply and click submit, it just sits there. i didnt seem to have this problem before the board upgrade, but now it seems to happen all the time and on different computers and different locations.

i belong to a different website that uses a similar board and it has never done this.
if i am crazy, then i will go see the men with the whie jackets.

I experience this as well. I've lost many replies because I thought IE was locked up and terminated it.

Sometimes hitting the Submit or Preview buttons appears to lock up the browser (but not all the time.... very random and sporadic). However, if you wait long enough (a few minutes sometimes), it will eventually continue. I don't know what the problem is... I would assume it's on the server end and has something to do with whatever is parsing the message content.

thats good. now the guys with the white coats can go away!

i have waited as long as an hour and it never sent the message. and of course, windows comes up with an error because i shut down ie.
at least i know its not my computer. i was going to reformat, but now i dont have to.
but i am going to try another browser and see if i get the same result.

I seem to experience this more when I'm quoting a quoted message (though it happens in non-quoted replies as well). When the post I'm quoting contains a quote of it's own, the vB software strips the original quote from my reply and leaves only the quoted text I'm replying to.

When the lockup occurs, the button (Submit or Preview) appears to stay depressed and the mouse cursor changes to an hourglass. It's like something is trying to happen in the background but doesn't.

Boy, am I glad to see others are having this problem! I thought it was my computer, and have spent several hours trying to diagnose it, and not having any luck! Guess I'l have to stop quoting until the problem has been fixed.

Yeah, right. Now, how about a real solution. I know Microsoft bashing is as popular as Bush bashing, but neither one solves anything. I've tried some of the alternatives, and frankly, I prefer I.E.

it seems only to happen when the quote is big. if its only a few words, it works well.

theres three options in the message editor. i changed from the basic to the standard. now lets see what happens.

Windows XP Home SP2, IE6. The thing is, I had no problems until a few days ago, and apparently neither did anyone else. That suggests to me that the problem is not IE6, it's the board.

I'm using the same version as Lindsay, 3.0.8, which is the latest stable release. 3.5 is beta. It's a rare occurrence but it does definitely happen. I haven't seen it happen with Firefox but may just be lucky. Haven't used Netscape in a long time, so can't help there.

an experts opinion

check the database. in most cases when something doesn't update in PHP based on the data, it usually means the field settings for that information aren't right. in this case the quote field is most likely a TEXT or VARCHAR type. in the former case, size is not an issue, it's unlimited. In the latter, the number of characters allowed for the field needs to be increased. this may be a bug, and should be reported to the developer, and then he/shee can make the fix, and re-release an updated version.

i guess the question is- have you had this problem on this board?
