• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I remember back in the early- to mid-'80s there was a "REACT" office in the basement of Tandy Tower 2 (Radio Shack's HQ) in Fort Worth. Never saw anyone around it, though.
O yes i remember the Tandy Tower REACT used to be big in Dallas and Ft,Worth, here in Brownsville their use to be a REACT club here in the late 80's into the 90's but faded away....

I contacted REACT back in the late 60's, early 70's, a few times. I was attempting to find some representation of them in S.E. Michigan. The people I spoke with seemed a little weird. They sounded like they were more interested in donations, marketing, and lots of bureaucracy.

They were no help at all. I even inquired as to what it would take to start a group in my area, and they were not interested at all.

The individuals I spoke with definitely had an air about them. I think they thought they were the Homeland Security of that time. I was not impressed with them.

Here's some info and history regarding REACT:

Yeah that`s how it went for me and a friend once, we were thinking on getting involved with REACT here in Central WI, contacted the person here in town that was with the local REACT team, filled out an application, but never heard back from them, in the end it didn`t matter, we both got ham licenses and moved on from those guys (no offense, i know some really great folks that were in the REACT team here, and i liked listening to their repeater, as i said before, it had GREAT coverage for a UHF machine :)), now that group has broken apart and gone away, even the repeater is gone. Intrestingly enough, i know that person that was with REACT, he too now has a ham license, when we chat up the (former) REACT thingy he and i kinda have a chuckle at it all, given how things are now with us having licenses & doing way more with our radios now :). That's funny, That all I hear on CH9 anymore.. Portamexicubans. Its like they found a channel that was less occupied with less noise and said "Our Search Is Over...We're Home!" :D

Decades ago, I was a React member. Team #4714 here in illinois for several years but it was a pointless membership since we were doing several outdoor public safety events every year, but the team officers kept voting out any continued training for us. Here we were carrying Oc spray at some events which served alchohol and some of us were emt's and first responders outside the team. Our local Leo's suggested we get some additional training since we were involved with large public events but every time the President shot that down so I quit. 73, n9zas
