Late last week I received my ebay purchase of a R75 to replace the one I sold a couple of years back. This one has the synch detector but no DSP unit. Since received, I added the DSP unit and then sent it on to Kiwa Electronics for the synch upgrade, the audio upgrade and the RF AGC modification. Hopefully in two weeks it will be back on its way to me. What little time I had with this one reminded me just how nice a HF receiver it is.

Sweet! Mine has the Kiwa sync mod, but not the audio or agc mod that I can tell. Happy that you were able to grab one up again Mike!

I had to add the DSP unit, too, but very shortly afterward the radio came with the DSP unit preinstalled. By the time I found that out it was probably too late to ask for a rebate.

As for the synch detector, it doesn't work on mine either. The PDF manual I downloaded a few years ago doesn't even mention the synch detector, so I likely have the wrong version of the PDF manual, although the printed version that I got with the radio does mention it. I'm wondering if the feature was eliminated in later models. The ICF-2010 I used to have In the 1990s had a very effective synch detector, but I no longer have that radio. At any rate, I don't need the feature, as I listen to very few stations in AM mode.

The UT-106 DSP did become standard on the R75. My first IC-R75 came with it factory installed. But by then, the synch detector was no longer offered by Icom. No great loss as the factory synch detector was not up to snuff. As for the manuals, I've come across two versions. One is dated 1999 and does provide info on the synch detector. The second, with a date of 2009 references that the synch detector existed at one time, but provides no info on its use. Hopefully the Kiwi mod to the synch detector will allow it to do what it was designed to do.

As a side note, SAM has been added to the Kiwi webSDRs with last nights software update. Appears to work well enough.

I bought mine in November of 1998, but didn't order the UT-106 until 2003. I seem to recall seeing some reference to an AM stereo chip that was supposedly used in the R75's synch detector circuit, but I'm not sure where I saw that.
