are you wanting talk group ids or actual radio ids.

radio ids serve no useful purpose. if you can use them as a talkgroup the only thing your going to hear is that speciffic radio . no dispatches ie.
the only time you will hear anything is when the officer talks . so it would possible in a 8 or 12 hour shift . with a certain id . you might hear 45 seconds of traffic the entire shift if he is assigned to a quite area , maybe morgan can chime in if this is the wrong info . i could be wrong

I use the ID Names so if I don't hear who is making the transmission I can visually see which unit is, I also use it for replaying what I have recorded
and selecting which transmissions I want to listen to.

For scanner users, I see no useful reason for the radio IDs.

Having radio IDs is a great way to determine users of encrypted, mutual aid. or unknown TGs, it is also very useful for new systems converting like ours is in the process of doing. However, unlike @mc48, in my area though the agency can be identified the users of the unit number often changes.

The UID's for dispatchers, EMS and Fire are very accurate but the PD side varies depending on who signs on in the system. Normally vehicles still stay in the same zone but they are not perfect.

I see plently of useful reasons for scanner users. I have nearly every normally used id in my county tagged. I have a pc dedicated to monitoring my county emergency services along with Unitrunker displaying all the system data. Plus it makes it easy to identify any of those big 'E' talkgroups because I can see which users are on them.

just to be clear we are not talking about talkgroup ids . we are talking about radio ids . each radio transmitts a id . big diffrence here
example:
car 21 might have a radio id of 123456
the officers handheld has 45678 id
the dispatch console has 98765 id
all these will all talk on tg 12345

how do u think when a emergency button is pushed they know who it is .
in the early trunk scanners you could enter the radio id as a talk group and just listen to that .
example i had a friend that was a officer . and i just pluged his car radio. handheld id and just listened to him . no dispatch just him talking .
all you would hear was him going 10-23 , 10-8 , running plates thats it
