Well, the first question you will be asked is, do you have Uniden Sentinel? The next question will be, what do you want to listen to?
That being said, the scanner is good for downloading the RadioReference database.
I have the SDS100 (similar radio) that is what I did. Downloaded the database, then I make adjustments as I need/want. It is a good way to start.

There are plenty of resources on these forums, particularly on the Uniden Tech Support forum, Youtube and the easier to read 436/536hp manual & easier to read Uniden Sentinel manual. I'd suggest reviewing these resources & learning how to program the scanner on your own. Yes there's a bit of a learning curve involved but it's well worth it rather than relying on others to program the scanner for you. Best wishes & 73!

You may feel overwhelmed but just as Whiskey3JMC has conveniently pointed out above, lots of info out there.
Once you understand and it clicks, all is smooth sailing from there.

Let me ask this, what "gets messed up" ?

As was pointed out before, you need programming software.
I am setting up new software for my WS1040, so I have to learn all this also.
Next, you need to program site freqs for the area of interest. Example: Weber Simul.
Once you have the freqs entered, you have to set the trunking tables for rebanded if you are listening to Weber.
Now program the Talk Groups that you want.
Save, upload to scanner, and scan..
The procedure is different for Hill AFB (p25 auto)
and Salt Lake City (not rebanded).

N7YUO brings up a good point in programming software. What are you using?

Settle down and get thru the programming yourself, as it is the best way to familiarize yourself with the scanner.

FLASHBACK to 2008 (partial of a thread that I archived) I know these guys are still with us. If they want, they can own it!
*
I've had my GRE-500 for several days now. It has (for me anyway) a very steep learning curve.
The first day I had it it I was calling it my "expensive paperweight".
When I used ARC500 software to load to the radio, the software would say complete,
but the radio would say 86% complete and lock-up. I had to turn it off and reboot to factory.
Win500 would lock-up when I tried to download from RR. After several hours I gave it a rest.

--Reply (in part)
I can second the "very steep learning curve" (heavy on the very steep part).
As you all know, I have purchased a GRE PSR 600.
I try to tackle my new toy and I'm lost.
I have decided to stay with the WIN500 software and so far I have
FINALLY gotten three conventional frequencies programmed in.
Since there are not banks and so on, I'm having a hard time wrapping
my mind around where these numbers go that I program in.
--and:
(Thanks Lindsay, RR staff, and the WIN500 developer(s)), but now I'm wondering,
"Do I need to go through each system I download and manually remove each and every TG
I don’t want to scan in that system?" That is going to be a huge job because we have some huge systems here.
Anyway, I feel dumber than a stump. I know, …I know, …I am. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
*
My conclusions:
Some members are going to have a difficult time understanding these new scanning concepts.
They look to those of us who have mastered these radios to at least give them guidance and patience.
*
Me: Hey Newbies,
If a lot of this stuff sounds like gibberish, well it is.---------
K7KNT replied: Just reading this has made my head hurt. I wouldn't even know where to begin with questions.

Also from a member with their GRE-500 (2008)
(I'm not trying to put anyone down, just point out a persistent problem)
*
Member stated: Memory goes quick. I have a bunch of conventional freqs and two trunk systems,
Wasatch Front Federal and UCAN Davis Co, and that took 64%.
*
Whoa!
I have a GRE-500, and it has: Cache Simul, Weber Simul, Davis Simul, SL Simul, SL City, Utah Co Simul, Wasatch Simul, Tooele Cnty, Bannock Cnty ID, Caribou Cnty ID, WyoLink First Divide, Hill AFB.
And that is without using any V-Folders.
All of these sites are instantly selectable with a press on the keypad.
With the concept of Object Oriented Scanning, I have access to more, uh, channels, in more Scanlists aka Favorites,
and less wasted memory than I ever had with any previous scanner I've owned.
*
So, with new sites coming on line, I am working on my program template so I can add these sites without running out of memory.
Here is one neat trick I call Duplicate Sites. Program one site, and you actually have two or more.
White Pine Peak - Millard, UT 854.2125 - 855.2125
Little Mountain -- Uintah, UT 854.2125 - 855.2125
*
Hobble Creek Canyon - Utah, UT 851.3875
American Fork Canyon -Utah, UT 851.3875

So far, I have identified 25 sets of duplicate, triplicate, or quadruplicate sites within 7202/643e.

Okay, back to the beginning. You live in Roy (Davis Co) and have a BCD536HP. Need help programming it. So far, correct?
I have an SDS100, and it is suppose to be similar, so let's start with that as an example. 1-You need to download Uniden Sentinel. 2-Using Sentinel, download the RR database, then 3-load that into your radio. (sounds simple, huh?)
-side note-What is it that you want to listen to? Please, don't say "everything". ( :) )
P.S. (Hope all was okay at the Doc's.)

What are you wanting to listen to? What site(s) are you hoping to hear?

I can make a quick .hpe file to get you started.

I have known KC7RHW for many years.
But I often see the question: "What do you want to hear?" I think it's obvious. Every scanner enthusiast that I have ever known has wanted to hear:
Police, Fire, and Search &Rescue in their own counties. And maybe the counties that are around theirs if they are receivable.

it brings in sites that i due not want to have it scanning

This may be because you have "Range" setting too large

Go to Menu:
*Set Your Location
*Enter Zip Code
*Select County
*USA
[Enter Zip code]

Now get back to "Set Your Location"
*Set Range
[Enter Range] I'd suggest 5 Miles

See if that changes anything.
Again, you are able to "Avoid" any sites or pretty much anything within Sentinel.
