A few years ago, I bought a mono earphone from Radio Shack. It was shaped like a button, with a foam pad over the earphone, and had a single skinny black wire terminated to a mono plug. It had really nice audio.

I've since lost that earphone, and Radio Shack doesn't carry it anymore.

The only one they carry now is a shiny plastic one, with a small cone that goes into your ear. IMO, the audio is tinny and terrible.

Anyone know where to find something like the button-style earphone? I don't want to get one of those coiled tube-style earphones that makes you look like a secret agent!

Thanks in advance.

You could try a cell-phone ear bud, they are cheap enough, though you will need a plug adapter to fit the scanner.

Go to the $ store in your area. They have stereo earbuds with the foam. Your scanner may allow use of both sides, some RS models do.
Plug the buds into your radio. If you only get sound out of one side, cut the other one off somewhere down the wire. If you get sound out of both sides but only want one, it won't matter which side you cut off.

I use both earbuds and when the scanner is under the coat, most folks probably think I'm listening to a MP3 or IPOD.

I personally don't care for the ear buds that look like an m + m candy and are close to the size of an m + m. They don't fit ve and are very uncomfortable. Maybe the type with the over the ear holder would be ok in that style.
I found a set of stereo earbuds that they use in ipods and other portable music players called skull candy at tj maxx for very cheap, if I remember they were around 5-10 dollars. They came with three different silicone covers that fit nicely and are more comfortable than the large ones. Works fine with my gre.

Skull Candy are the bees knees. Great sound and come with different size rubber ends for different size ears.
