Hello. I have the PRO-163 RadioShack scanner. I went under the "product support" tab for the firmware updates and I clicked on "PRO-163 and PRO-164 Trunking Scanners (Firmware Upgrade 1.10 for Boot Versions 1.00 and 1.01 (555KB)) ". I followed all the directions correctly. I extracted to the folder I wanted and I clicked on "CPUUpdater_20-163_164_v1.10 for Boot Ver1.00" and NOT "CPUUpdater_20-163_164_v1.10 for Boot Ver1.01" because I have "Boot Ver:F1.00" which is boot version 1.00. I selected the correct COM port (after verifying it was correct in device manager), I clicked on "test" and it said "This update utility contains version 1.10", I went ahead and clicked "update", but then it said "No data from the scanner. Please retry from step4". After I keep on trying repeatedly it keeps on doing this. Please help? I don't know why it's doing this….

I use the same cable 20-546 that came with ARC300 and can program the scanner just fine, I just can't upgrade the Firmware.

Thanks for your time and have a nice day!

Thanks for your reply, that is what I have been doing. Holding down the Program button and powering up.

And that your cable is plugged into the PC/IF jack, not the headphone or ext sp jack.

Thanks for everyones help! You all provided information that I have already tried. My frustrations are common, I have searched the net and have found people with the same issue but no answers. Like I sad the cable works fine in programing the scanner. I do push the program button when powering up.

I recall people having problems with this too. What version code do you have now? What version are you attempting to update to? What version boot loader do you have?

Let's say your scanner is presently v1.07 and you're trying to update to 1.10. You might try incremental updates, rather than the full jump. In other words, update to v1.08 first.

Another thought is to use the 'other boot loader version'. Even though the scanner says v1.00, try for v1.01. Only do this if the above doesn't work. There are other threads here on RR on this topic and someone else did finally figure out a solution.

I have v1.07 and I have tried to step it to v1.08 then v.1.10 wiyh no luck, thanks.

The cable I'm using is the 20-546 and was bought at Radio Shack that came with the trial version of ARC300 to program the scanner. Not a bad program. Maybe I need the 20-047 cable ?

I'm trying to update the firmware and the programing is done. I volunteered to do this for my part time job employeer. I have been a Uniden owner for the last 40 years and currently use a BR330T portable and my Base is a BCT15X

I know that this has been coverd a few times over, I belive your missing a step here, you should ask this in this froum right here. just go there and ask this. I had the samething as you are very eazy fix, I belive you just need to read and do just what the installer program tells you to do, just slow down and read whats its telling you, i missed it the 1st few times around.Good luck
