can anyone tell me how to program a radio shack pro 2052 and how to get the cable to program with radio shack did not have it im new at all of this trying to make it a hobby just retired and getting bored
Hi Moose and welcome - you've asked an extremely large question here, and as you read this reply, you're going to wonder if you've stepped into the virtual quicksand - and the answer will be yes
Let's get started - please note that anything in blue is a link of some kind...
Now let's take a look at your county page in our database..
Morgan County, Indiana (IN) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
According to the news note posted there, it looks like at least some of the Sheriff departments have moved over to the Indiana SAFE-T system. This is a digital based system that the 2052 cannot hear. However there still is a little to be heard, depending on the frequency, and whether you have an antenna outside...as to programming, this radio is quite simple to program by hand - here is the Easier to Read guide on the 2052
Easier to Read Pro 2052 Scanner Manual
You can program it via software - probably the best to be had for this radio is
Scan Control. Unless you have an older PC with a real serial port, you will need a USB-serial cable - and fortunately, there are many fairly inexpensive off the shelf ones that are known to work. This article in our wiki details some of them, and most importantly talks about Windows Device Manager to help diagnose connection issues...
Connecting scanners via USB - The RadioReference Wiki
I think doing this by hand is cheaper, frankly...
Anyway we're not quite done yet. As mentioned before, the SAFE-T system is digital, and you'll need a digital trunktracker to hear this. There happens to be 3 models that are pretty much pre-programmed and will potentially do the job - Uniden's Home Patrol, RS PRO-18 and the GRE PSR-800. There are several others, but each of them require some additional expense in software and/or cables, so let's try to stick with the (more or less) pre packaged models, as it were..

Which one is for you and your budget? Good question - and one that your fellow Indiana scannists can help you decide...

That should be enough to roll your eyes for a time. Ask some questions on the Indiana forum - let the locals guide you. Such decisions can be expensive mistakes without their help and guidance.
best regards..Mike
