An earlier post somewhere makes a complaint about the Manuals with Radio Shack Scannersbeing useless ................ I can attest that this is true for this model.
I bought it yesterday on a whim. I havent had a scanner since my 4 channel crystal controlled Fannon.
So I set about to learn about trunk tracking and I think I have it mostly figured out........... HOWEVER. the book for this radio HASs to be missing some important steps to program in the Edacs channels. When I follow what I thnk it is sayting I do NOT get the results that the book says I shold be getting...
Does anyone have any experience with this or simlar radios that knows the steps needed to get it programmed? I have my first set of LCN frequencies pludgged in for Greene County, but I cant figure out how to get the ID groups plugged in. Sofar I dont thing it is really trukn tracking, but rather just super scanning the few freqs I have in it.
This is the systems I am trying to get in. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=578
The book mentions using the AFS group but the directions are crap ( dont work) at least for me.
HELP?!?!?!?!?!

Follow the directions on pages 64 and 65.

Manually storing talk group IDs in talk group ID lists

1. Select the trunking programming mode and the bank you want to change.

2. Use UP or down arrow to choose trunk system, then press E/PGM.

3. Use UP or down arrow and choose Prog id, then press E/PGM.

4. Press UP or down arrow to select the scan list location.

5. Enter the talk group IDs for each trunk system.

For Irving Texas, DEC 273 or AFS 02-021

If you join this PRO-433/528 group you will find step by step programming and a trunking explanation in the FILES section (left side of group page).

Man is this radio more retarded than I am. Once got a whole set of ID groups plugged in it and run it in scan, it starts flashing all these numbers on the display........... Like I am supposed to remember what department is what ID group........ This unit not having alpha tagging makes it very useless and over priced. and it's operation is NOT at all instinctive. I am not Ignorant. This thing is just poorly designed. As I said in the beginning I bought it on a whim....... so NOW , since I have gotten the bug back to have one, I am going to return this turky and shop for a NON digital trunking unit to get me buy for now. When our local departments go Digital then I will upgrade..

My thanks to those who gave advice. BTW the files in the pro 433 group were great.- Its just the Radio that sucks

My advice- dont buy the Pro528. If you did-- take it back NOW!.. Lets see how nice the fine people at the Xenia Radio shack are about this return............................. STAY TOONED!
