Hello all,

I am away with my RadioShack Pro-18 and I forgot to bring my programming CD with me. I have seen a previous thread in this before but do I need the CD in order to use the software to program my scanner? I have the software downloaded on my laptop here but it’s not letting me get through. I am trying to program Volusia County EDACS system in Florida and for some reason I can’t listen to any of the talkgroups so I’m guessing I did something wrong and need to change something in the software. Not sure if I can do it manually

none of my programming software requires the CD once the software is installed on the pc.

You do not need the CD once the program is installed as @rk911 mentioned.

But... the Pro-18 iScan software will no longer get database updates or do firmware update checks. The server that handled those updates was shutdown.
You can use your existing software to manually add things into your radio or manipulate what's in the radio already but that's about it.
There is a manual way of updating the database files by using Whistler's site and downloading the DB files but it takes a little bit of work by the end user.

The other option is to send your Pro-18 into Whistler for the Legacy Scanner Upgrade Program. They take your radio and essentially turn it into a Whistler WS1080 model and from that point forward, you use the WS1080 software for programming and getting weekly database updates. You would uninstall the old Pro-18 software as it is no longer used after the WS1080 upgrade.
This is not free and costs around 70 or $80 dollars the last I looked. It's worth the cost though as it allows the most recent (and future) firmware to be loaded into your Pro-18 as well as adding DMR modes and possibly P25 Phase II if your Pro28 did not have that already. It also restores the weekly DB updates.

The official upgrade is worth the cost. Both of my radios showed improvement, and I live in a simulcast area and have very little problem with reception. The other advantage is the Whistler software (free download) works faster than the original and has added features.

I found that I was able to copy the configuration from my Whistler WS1080 to the Pro-18 iSCAN software. Save the attached 1080 file to your computer. Download and install the WS1080 EZ Scan software.
Under the File tab, Restore Configuration from Archive and Open the attached file. Click Yes at the Overwrite warning. The file will load into the 1080 software. Connect your Pro-18 to your computer. Under the Scanner/SD Card tab, Copy Configuration To Scanner Memory/SD Card and see if you are able to program your scanner using the 1080 software. Don't try to update the firmware. You may brick your scanner.

Thank you for the info. Right now I’m not interested in the upgrade. I have the software for my Pro-18 downloaded on my desktop at home. I programmed in my scanner before I went away for the EDACS system for Volusia County Florida. I’m here in Florida now and for some reason I can’t hear the talkgroups that I programmed. I want to go into the software to read my scanner to figure out what the problem is. I figured I would do this by downloading the software on my friends computer but I don’t have the CD. The software has never been downloaded on his computer and I don’t have the CD. I downloaded the software on my friends laptop and I just kind of get the welcome screen that shows me the instructions of how to download the software but not the actual software. I think what you’re saying is that you need the CD the first time in order to download the software onto the computer and then after that you don’t need the CD because it’s already on the computer?

ISCAN pro 18 install
I have iSCAN Version 1.02 and it does not have the options to Save Configuration to Archive or Restore Configuration from Archive. It appears that the software is designed for creating the configuration from the library download only. Does your version have the options to Save and Restore?

Did any of the iScan versions have the Configuration save or restore options to or from an archive file? I can't recall that ever being an option in the iScan version of the EZ-Scan software.
The version posted above is also Ver 1.02 which was the newest version I ever had as well.

Thank you! Since I was able to download the configuration into iSCAN from my 1080, I am hopeful that it may be possible to program the Pro-18 using the 1080 EZ Scan software.

You can also load 1080 EZ software file with the unofficial fw. My pro-18 has been working with it for years with no issues and DMR works excellent. Holding at FW 4.5 and DSP 3.2 has been no problem. I do have a 668 with whistlers update (purchased that way) and cant really tell any difference between the unofficial 18 and official 668. YMMV

I STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST DOING THAT! Too many people have suffered the consequences of having their scanners bricked. It will also cost more if you decide to have the Official Legacy Upgrade done later. Having the official upgrade will eliminate a lot of problems. It will add P25 Phase II and DMR to your scanner You will also be able to update your scanner firmware, library, and EZ Scan applications using the WS1080/WS1088 EZ Scan software. There have been many reports of improved performance after the upgrade. An added bonus is that you will be able to save configuration files for later use and also load files such as the one I attached.

You do not need the CD to install the iSCAN software file.

When I click on “Install Pro-18 Iscan...” it gives me an error launching message that I can’t get past. Any ideas on what the issue is here?
