Any problems downloading or using the proprietary software from RadTel? I tried to download but it's in .RAR format. Is it safe? Thanks
First of all, welcome to RadioReference! I used to have the 470X. That I can remember, it did not do anything useful. They are trying to imitate the emergency or man-down button on the professional radios. I would not rely on it for anything regarding personal safety. Furthermore, the man down buttons are usually going through a repeater system and they are programmed so that when pressed, it sends out an ID and alerts the dispatchers that a certain individual may be in trouble. Hope this helps you.My first post on RadioReference. Does anybody know what the orange 'SOS/emergency alert function' button does, other than make a loud noise from the speaker? I'm trying to work out if it could be useful in an emergency whilst dinghy sailing.
Thanks Manny, that's really useful. I think I'll get a good waterproof cover for it, and run it on Low TX power on the same freq my sailing club uses (if they're happy for me to do that). I'm not currently licenced, but I'm hoping an unrecoverable capsize counts under the 'marine emergency' exemption. I'm intending to take my UK OFCOM foundation licence in the near future.First of all, welcome to RadioReference! I used to have the 470X. That I can remember, it did not do anything useful. What software are you using to program your RT 470xHey dude,
I had the same issue on a Rt-470 and the rt-890. For both radios I had to enable the tail noise clear. Screens attached for the proprietary CPS and Chirp software. You will find it under the "optional settings" to enable the clear.
A lot of radios like this transmit over a large frequency range like that. BUT, the power outside the designed range is like 0.01 W. You will not notice that if you are transmitting just a few feet. Though it looks a lot different, the 470 menus, etc. reminds me a whole lot of a Quansheg UV-K5(8)/K6 which I like better. The radios are enough similar that it cannot be a coincidence. I would buy a K6 and install (free and easy) the egzumer firmware. 10W just wastes battery in most cases--put money into better antennas.UPDATE:
Received the 470X. A few things. First of all, the receive audio is excellent. Sensitivity is most definitely a strong point in this radio. Surprisingly enough, it receives AND transmits from 100-520 Mhz without gaps. ( AM AC band excluded). Incredible. Tunning steps are on point for our country. 6.25 and (2.5 X 3) 7khz.
Radio feels solid in the hand.
Keypad well lit, buttons feel firm
Display is in color with nice large numbers
Here is my one and only complaint.
This radio has a VERY loud and annoying squelch tail. I don't understand what it is about these Chinese radios that pretty much all have this issue. Wouxun, Baofeng, and now I see Radtel has it too. May not be on all radios but a good majority of them do from what I see on other forums. They have a feature on the menu (STE) to eliminate that but it only applies to radio to radio two way communications. Receiving local emergency response traffic is almost impossible without hearing that loud tail noise. Nonetheless, I like this little radio.

Is there a better software to use to program my RT 470xI use Chirp software to program my TR 470x
Where is "Optional Settings" in Chirp? I have tried all versions, Legacy , Next, and normal. Nothing there. Even tried Developer mode and loading module. Nope. Are you sure you are using the real Chirp?Hey dude,

I just programmed my RT470x with 3 channels in the 800MHz range with the proper tones but it will not break the squelch. I have to set a monitor button to break he squelch & it still sounds poor. I even replaced the antenna with one fit or 800MHz with the same resultsI just received my RT 470x and I can program 800mhz but I can't find where to program DCS codes when I'm using DCS can anyone help me please and thank

Thank YouIf the RT470x uses a BK4819 for its RF chip, it will not perform well at 800MHz, if at all.
