Thus you will find some Walmart stores going to the DTR series.
While it easy put of box programming and any dtr could work I have found 2 stores so far that changed the out of box programming solving interference issues on murs including some having issues with stock out of box DTR radios by changing the DTR setup these days.
So if it becomes a problem they'll use DTR.
Buddy of mine is the manager at one of the local stores here and he is going to use DTR series or latest 3 lettered version which I forget and drop MURS use unless they have a store wide change and bring folks from other stores out of area to overhaul stock and departments then they'll use MURS he said. He had got a couple and likes it changing the out of box setup so it's more private. The range is better and they have no issues with the back of store to lot with the DTR where MURS it's scratchy.
His LP wishes Wal mart would go to a DMR encrypted setup on simplex.
I'm not surprised to see Walmart* finally "graduating" to something better than MURS.
Latest 3 letter version = DLR = Digital Lightweight Radio, according to Motorola. The DTRs are feature-rich but often are too much radio for the average business radio user in a retail environment. The DLR series is Motorola's answer to that. The DLRs make sense for the target market.

I used to own a fleet of DLR1060 radios and the Multi Unit Charger (MUC) for them. They are great little radios. RF performance and range is identical to the older DTR 550/650 models when using the 3.5 inch 1/4 wave antenna. The 7 inch half wave antenna gives the DTRs a very slight edge in range over the DLRs but you'll never notice it unless on the absolute fringe of coverage. I later sold my DLR fleet to a friend for his business because I have a fleet of DTR650 radios and a fleet of the new DTR700 model. I have the DTRs and DLRs fully working with each other. I totally abandoned GMRS/FRS and MURS and now use only DTRs and DLRs for my local on-site simplex type use with family and friends. I used GMRS/FRS for local simplex ops for many years but finally stepped up to an all digital solution that's higher quality and more professional than GMRS/FRS and MURS.
Costco Wholesale near me uses DLR radios on one of the default channels.
I use the talkgroup scan feature on my DTR650 radios to keep an ear on the default public groups 1-5 which match up with default DLR channels 1-5. I added a 6th public group in my DTR programming to listen to default DLR channel 6. I am finding increasing activity on these radios in my travels. Most users seem to be using them out of the box at the factory default programming, like FRS. That's how I found Costco using DLR radios. I know they are using DLR radios by a few of their characteristics given my familiarity and experience with them.
I don't use MURS at all anymore or GMRS/FRS for that matter. I don't use analog radios at all anymore for my non-ham stuff. All of my local non-ham on-site simplex type use with family and friends is on 900MHz with DTR and DLR radios.
