Why is it so difficult to find maps with milepost listings for railroads on the Internet? I did find one for BNSF but it wasn't as detailed as I wanted. I haven't seen one for Union Pacific, EJ&E or Canadian National, which I'm really interested in, for Illinois at all. Anyone know of any sites?

because when i tell the dispatcher a location I dont want people to know where I am at when i'm sitting on 6,000 tons of highly flamable ethanol...

Unless you are supposed to be privvy to that information.

Mile Posts

Get yourself a Railroad Atlas from SPV, very informative, and has All the Secret mile posts.

Before 9/11 you could find those mile mark maps at several web sites for every railroad in the nation. BUT because of the volunteer removal by the Railroad companys themselves then later the Homeland Security Act of any information concerning the travel of rail cargo information you can no longer get those maps. You can't even purchase them. Several years ago I asked about purchasing the same type of maps and I got a polite "No" from everyone.
Every Railroad has posted signs that indicate the mile for the road at that point. Thats so the engineer won't get lost. You just have to know where to look. Now that information is free. Once you know where you are in realtionship to where the train is you can track it fairly easyly.

you can purchase the north american railroad map from them. it does not contain any milepost information but it is pretty interesting. i have it and i find it is very useful and pretty accurate.
i would also recommend the train dispatcher game. its also interesting.
