Thanks for the suggestions and the offers of help. Just received scanner today and plan to address situation tonight. Must say the previous post was somewhat overwhelming after years of just entering one frequency at a time with the old scanner systems. This is for my Dad, who is retired and life revolves around his scanner. All he wants is Randolph County/Asheboro and surrounding area frequencies programmed so hopefully that will make it simple. Thanks again.

OK, created (MOT} system, created site, and created group. Ready to enter frequencies for local area. Should I just do this manually due to the limited entries I wish to program? Or should I use program such as FreeSCAN?

Cth16 I fixed my options.. apparently PM was turned off, sorry about that. I personally like to program my scanner with a computer so I always have a backup and I just find it easier. If you'd like, I can set you up a freescan file and email it to you so you can just upload it. Just let me know what talkgroups you're wanting to listen to. As for sites (frequencies), at my house Staley, Riverdale, Mount Sheppard, and Ash Dot pick up the best for me (I would rank the site's signal in that order). Randleman seems to be weird for VIPER coverage, not just on my scanner but on my moto apx as well, so your signal may vary. If you want to program by hand it's not too difficult once you get the hang of it, it just gets tiring if you have very many things to program. If your dad is interested in Guildford county listening it seems to pick up rather well down this way too. If you need anything else my PM seems to be working now.

Miserable failure at this point. Forum still won't allow me to PM. Maybe due to fact I am new and continue to have admin approve of each post before it displays? Receive the following message when attempt tp PM anyone:

I have programmed manually and can receive analog frequencies if I scroll through one at a time, but they will not lock on while scanning. If I choose TGID:42016 or 42032, it blinks"Finding CtrlChan" and receives nothing.

Attempted to program with FreeSCAN and Laptop will not connect with scanner. Device Manager insures me Com port is working perfectly but the two will not link. Does scanner need to be in certain mode or setting for remote programming?
