Again, for all those in the back of the bus who didn't hear me... my post is NOT about things like CON+ that are not in the manual..... it's about things that are, examples of I specifically stated... but whatever... moving on.
Without an index how are you supposed to find answers to your questions in the manual --- read every page word for word?

So even if the answer to a question is buried somewhere in the manual, what good is it if you have to read every page to find it?

jjbond, please feel free to ignore SDS100/200 questions. But some of us (including myself) will stick around to help those who have questions.

Are you kidding me? No, not read every word but heaven forbid you have to read your manual and possibly find the answer.

As mentioned above (and shown below in a quick search in the manual), keep a PDF copy on your computer and do a keyword search... my gawd, you all REALLY need this explained to you??????? My apologies, I gave you all more credit than I should have or I'd have not posted the "look in your manual" statement to begin with... it's quite apperent I assumed incorrectly that I was surrounded by a more technical/smart group of people... sorry for the confusion.... you're right... you all DO need to ask questions for everything.

PS: Not a problem, I can ignore ALL stupid questions, not just the 100/200 one's, I'll save those for you (but you better learn to read your manual, cus you'll find all the answers in there), no charge for the search PDF tip, that one's a freebee.

Wowza...... there's obviously too much flouride in your all's water supply.

What is flour ide? Flour water, lol. Do you mean fluoride? I had my teeth treated with it a couple weeks ago to help reduce visits to the dentist.

I can tell you are a really friendly and helpful person. Like I said, feel free to not respond to questions.

think we are spending more energy and time *****ing about answering questions than actually answering them, my suggestion would be to ignore posts you don't like, you are not required to view them really, it's not that difficult

I'm everywhere Focker!
The irony...

People posting that you don't have to answer questions and you are free to ignore them....then for some reason those same people choose to not ignore this thread and getting all worked up about it.

I'm glad it was moved to the Tavern.

You know, it's a shame you are so rude. While I agree that people should make an effort to check the manual, as others have indicated, it may not be very helpful or readable. There is no reason to be such a rude jackass.

BUT

I put out a inquiry recently & one of the Data base administrators shamed me about using the wrong word

I used "upgrade" instead of "update" & was fried 4 it , basically called me stupid

I come from the rockbound days, 1st scanner was a regency 10 channel with the big red lights

fast forward 40+ yrs, I appreciate the leaps & bounds in scanning technology, but many of us are not PhDs or rocket scientists in said field

I appreciate the help & knowledge That I have received from this site over the years, But more & more I'm reluctant to post cuz of people such as this

This person reminds me of JW, now serving a prison term

Remember him??

If you don't want to answer questions then don't. There are a lot more serious problems in the world than the need to get on a soap box of self superiority and condemn others for not following a list of rules you determine need to be followed before questions can be asked.

Listen to this.. A "rude jackass".. really? A reaction to provoking idiocy? Like you really need an index to RTFM? Especially a PDF version with a search function... Makes you wonder how many ever made it to graduation...

No it all boils down to entitlement.. Gimme, gimme without having to put forth effort to obtain desirable results...

I am saying this because I have necer owned a scanner better than a Pro-2006 and now have an SDS200 I personnaly have no real questions about as I did RTFM and did my own searches and found the answers to my questions... Without an index...

How hard is it to comprehend this was exactly what Jen originally suggested but then was hammered with stupidity and peoples lack of ability to read and do searches for themselves as I did...

Some peoples kids anyway....

Then ask away, but check the manual first for obvious items... everyone is focusing on what I did NOT say... I agree with you, there's lots missing from the manual from firmware updates and just from being too much for one manual.... but what color the of power cord goes to positive and what size is the max SD card or does it even come with an SD card.... what's the point of having the awesome Wiki pages we have here if people are too lazy to spend 1 minute and look themselves.

Possibly there is also a disconnect between the equipment and the manual where the equipment was revised/updated and through some "oops" these revisions or updates did not find their way to the manual--or maybe an outdated manual was accidentally shipped with an updated radio. Stranger things have happened.

I'm sorry you had to go through that! As far as I'm concerned "upgrade" and "update" are similar enough to not worry 'bout it, especially in a casual hobby setting like here. (Although at work where precision gets a bit more critical it's a bit different--yet again at worst I'd probably just give someone a raised eyebrow followed by "Oh, really?" :) )

Okay okay, I've been around and I do have an opinion so I'll share it. When I first got the x36s in 2014 it was quite a learning curve even though even at that point I had many years of experience with SWL, monitors, two way radio equipment and scanners. Using them in my job my whole professional life and installing them on a regular basis.

With the SDS series I took to it like a duck in water understanding it, never even looking at the manual because of my extensive experience with the X36. So I can imagine how difficult it can be for someone without a lot of experience or never owning an x36 and how they run into roadblocks pretty quickly.

I think one of the smartest things here that was said was it boils down to Common Sense. If you don't understand something just Google it and it will refer you right to the threads in RR that address that issue. Pretty simple stuff.

Yes there are questions that are too stupid to even address but somebody always does but it's not going to be me, it's too painful to ask someone if the radio is plugged into the wall when it isn't working.

If you've got a problem just ask if you have to. If it's a complicated difficult problem you have plenty of smart people here who will go out of their way to help you, I've been doing that here for years offering my knowledge, however, first look at the manual or Google the issue and see what's here on RR already.

BTW, everybody here is making very valid points on both sides of the issue. I know I have asked a few questions after researching them thoroughly and was able to get a good answer every time, you learn something new everyday... Bob.
