I am just getting back into scanning after many years. I bought a RS Pro 106 and programmed the frequencies from this website via the ARC 500 software into my scanner. My reception of Berks County is excellent with plenty of action to listen to from county police, fire,EMS airport traffic, etc. My question is what exactly can be heard from the City of Reading as I programmed in all the frequencies and talkgroups. I know some are encrypted but is there any that can be listened to or is a digital scanner not worth the extra expense. Thank you as any help would be appreciated getting me "caught up" in my scanning hobby.

You might be able to hear the conventional 800 repeater on mt penn for the 800 MHz national frequency but that's about it. With a digital scanner , city fire would be your limit for the city system.
When berks finishes their new system, the digital will get you county fire and EMS but not PD , since that will be encrypted.
