Im thinking about getting a pro 2096 digital scanner i live near reading. Will i be able to scan the police in that area?

Reading is in Berks Co. Pa. Yes the 2096 will work, if you look at the database http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1828 it's a mixed analog-digital system. Some of the Talkgroups are listed as E=encrypted so those you wont be able to listen to.

Reading PA police are on the trunked system, however they operate nearly all digital encrypted audio. There are no scanners that can decode the encryption. The only Reading emergency services able to be monitored are the fire and EMS. Fire admin and EMS Med-tac channels are digital non-encrypted, but of course you need a P25 digital capable reciever to hear them (the 2096 does this).

If your main goal is to monitor Reading Police, unfortunately there are no scanners that have that capability.

Reading has just about been taken over by NYC and Philly druglords as their distribution hub to other southcentral PA cities. The PD really has no other option since many of these lowlifes are equipped with state of the art technology to help in their "trade".

I don't like it, but I do understand it.
