Swapped in a different card and the scanner started up fine. I'll be out driving somewhere in a bit and I'll see if that fixed the problem. I reformatted the other card with no problem and reloaded the data.

Update: found once again yesterday the radio had rebooted and was once again HOLDing on the same system previously seen (and no longer recording).

At that time (about 24 hours ago), adjusted my scan choices once again (removed HOLD, dis/enabled various systems and departments, etc.) and powered the radio OFF the "normal" way. I then powered the radio back up and re-enabled recording.... (Note: prior to this the radio had been powered for approx 10 days since getting the dongle to work o/a 2/12)

Today is the first day for a while now (10 days?) that it appears the radio hasn't done at least 1 reboot within 24 hours.

Well, that didn't last long.... Today it appears that the radio once again has rebooted and is no longer recording but it does appear that the power down to preserve my current settings worked... While this may sound good, in my opinion this confirms yet another problem in that your settings (favorites lists, systems, departments, etc quick key settings are not persisted until the radio is powered off).

At some point this week, I plan to replace the fairly new SD card with another brand new one I just bought. We'll see what happens....

Has anyone found a fix for this?
Since performing the latest firmware update, my scanner reboots at random intervals throughout the day. Often several times an hour! It is NOT an SD card issue. I've tried 4 different SD cards of varying speed and class and it continues to happen. This all started after following the step by step instructions for the firmware update. The scanner was working fine prior to that .... aside from the headphone static issue.

I've not had any reboots on mine - I know because I am using the recording feature, which gets reset on reboot, and I only ever reset the radio when I update the DB on Monday nights.

Have you eliminated possibilities like the WiFi dongle? Unplug it and let the radio run for a while, see if it stays running.

Yeah, no luck. Have tried with dongle plugged in, unplugged...wifi enabled, disabled, both in access point and infrastructure mode, and it makes no difference. Is there a place to flash old firmware versions back onto the 536HP? This clearly looks like a firmware issue.

Not "legitimately". There is a guy who stores old versions of firmware - you may be able to find him on the forums somewhere.

Every other reboot situation, including mine, was traceable to a SD card issue. Both of my 536s have the latest firmware and other than the issue with the one in my truck, I've not had that problem. The one time I did have it, it was after an inadvertent power cycle when I started the engine when my radio was on.

Reformatting the card and reloading the data fixed it.

Hey folks,
Have tried reformatting each SD card that I've attempted in the scanner, still no luck. Is there perhaps a certain way to format that I'm missing? Currently, the formatting is done in Fat32, with Quick Formatting enabled.

Upon formatting, I've done a complete rewrite onto the scanner from Sentinel, with no luck either time.
Often times the scanner will go into a fit and reset several times in a 2 minute span. Other times it happens only once in a 5 min span. Very frustrating.

I will give the older firmware a shot.

Update:

Upon attempting to update the firmware, the scanner has shocked itself back into not resetting. Oddly enough, I still have the newer firmware, and now receive a msg when turning the device on or off that it's awaiting my wifi to perform firmware update. Not sure how those sequence of events caused it to work without resetting, but I will take it.

Thanks for the link for the older firmware versions.

Maybe try a full format, clear user data, then write your card with your data.

I was having the same issue with a 32gb Samsung card. I used the SDFormatter software to reformat the card but I used the Full (OverWrite) option. This seems to have resolved my recording/rebooting problem.

It's not the scanner - it's the OEM card. Lots of OEM card failures - relatively few replacement card failures. That tells me it's the card, not the scanner.

As I said, there have been a few failures of replacement cards. If yours isn't the original, which brand and capacity is it?

I had a "SD Card Error" on my 436 a few weeks ago - just once. It was when I dropped the radio on a carpeted floor from about 3 feet (fell off a table, actually). Reseated and rebooted, and has worked fine ever since. This was a grey and red SanDisk microsdHC 32GB.

I wonder if any of the issues in the 436 specifically are related to poor seating with the (forgive me) ridiculous microSD port/latch design.

An interesting idea... But, I would think the odds of poor seating would be the same for replacement cards, too - to a higher degree than we have seen failures of them.
