I really like the Uniden BC75XLT. Cheap scanner, with very good receive.

Also for base or mobile monitoring, I would recommend the Uniden BC355N

Everyone's favorite seems to be the Uniden BCT-125AT.

I agree. My 125 beats my Alinco DJ-X11 most of the time. Also my BCT15X works quite well too.
Now, if you can find the older scanners that do VHF/UHF air frequencies with the full Milair spectrum, Google search is a great way to find these, You'll find they are less prone to interference.
Please PM me for more assistance.

Looking at your other posts...you have quite the collection started. Don't know your location, but if your not close to an airport, a handheld might be quite silent. Perhaps you should test 1 of your 4 scanners on the air band frequencies you want to monitor to see if you're able to pull them in before spending money on something that might not work.

Look for a used Uniden BC780XLT. One of the best civil and milair receivers out there.

I’m in Lewiston,Maine. The nearest airport is in Auburn, about 5 miles away. And I’m 30 miles from Portland.

Is there a handheld version of the BC780XLT?

If there was, I would have bought it:lol: Had a 780 for many years. My favorites were the Pro-43 and the Pro-2006. Only one was a handheld, the 43. Used to bring it to work with me to listen to the aircraft practicing for the Cleveland Air show at Burke lakefront. Can't even begin to tell you of experiences at the shows:wink:
Hope you find what you're looking for.
The 125AT is worth the money.

No. The 125AT is probably the closest match for handheld air performance.

I used to set up my 780XLT on the front lawn during airshows at my local Navy base (now closed.) The neighbors would come by and be astounded that I could hear the Blue Angels et al. talking to each other.
