Record Messages on BC785D

I want to record on a certain Trunked Bank on the above radio. I have gone into Trunked Mode for banks and have set Record to ON. Plugged in my cable to back of BC785 and the other end into MIC imput. I can record the bank, but the recorder will stop when there are no transmission's and continues to run. I do have a remote jack on the recorder but don't know if something should be pluged into it.

It sounds like the tape recorder needs that remote connection to be able to turn it on or off; there's a jack for this on my 895, I'll bet there's one somewhere on the 785...however...
There's a far far easier way to record than using a tape recorder- there are several packages (some of these are freeware) that will allow you to record directly to a wave file (no pesky tapes to reload, jam, ect). If your recorder has a VOX function turn it on. If not use your computer to due the recording with scan record or get a VOX capable recorder
