Yes, it looks to be fairly easy once you get things set up, and I believe the audio files are in MP3 format. There's another freeware package that works very well for recording - IDTracker III.

For FreeScan, see the section and follow the link (anything in blue)...

As for IDTracker 3, see this link...

Thanks for the links Mike. If I run into any problems I will ask,but it doesn't look that complicated. I will take it one step at a time, thanks again.

Ok, I purchased Proscan, put in my registration key after downloading it. After reading the table of contents I need a few things.
(1)RS-232 straight thru cable...USB to RS-232 converter.
(2)Radio Shack #42-2420A audio cable with 1/8” mono connector on both ends.

I plan on using the line in jack on the front of my desktop computer. And I will be connecting my scanner to a USB port.
Can I buy these cables all at the same place online at Radio Shack.com? or is there another online place to go for these cables, thanks.

Proscan won't eliminate the popping sound.
Dick

Maybe one day, if I find some good DSP algorithms, I'll like to play around with DSP to try to eliminate the popping sounds and 60 cycle hum with software. Of course that will only work for recordings and streaming audio with the audio passing thru ProScan, not for audio coming from line in (or mic) to computer speakers without ProScan in the audio path.

Anyone knows of any DSP algorithms?
