Can anyone give me a simple explanation on 2vfo for the ar8000.
I'm having a hard time understanding the concept behind this feature.
Many thanks...joe
p.s. are there any scanner clubs in the oshawa, ontario area?

Hello,

Several receivers, including the AR8000, AR8200, AR8600, Icom R20 etc. (and various Ham Radios also) have the 2 VFO feature. Basically, the 2VFO means that the radio has 2 receivers, which can tune to either 2 frequencies in the same band at the same time, or 2 frequencies in different bands at the same time.
On some of the radios, certain modes (like SSB) may not be available on both VFOs or not both VFOs at the same time. Also some modes may not be available in all frequencies.

This is not correct. The AOR-8000 can not tune 2 frequencys at the same time. The 2 VFO feature in this radio is more like having 2 quick access tuners. you can switch from one frequency to the other simply by pushing the vfo button. for example you can have a 2 meter repeater input programed into one "VFO" and the output on the other "VFO". If that repeater is busy you can go to the VFO and monitor the output then press the buton and instantly tune the radio to the input.

Pick any 2 frequencys and with this feature you can quickly switch between them is the bottom line.
