I put all of that in as a new P25 system and have full bars and DAT but no activity, may be because it's using some existing frequencys making the DAT come up? I will leave that bank open on the scanner from now on and wait untill they start testing so I can work on IDs..

What occurred to me after you posted this is that the radio system is 'recycling' most of their existing edacs mode frequencies over to the new P-25 system. You might be picking-up the carrier on the existing edacs control channel.

That's what I'm thinking cause it don't have LNK yet I get no signal on the new 801 frequencies yet, I'm leaving it open, I will be able to tell when they start testing right away even if volume is down I have a different color alert light set for all the channels

Very good.

I have been scanning in conventional the NEW frequencies, under the assumption that if the Tech's light-up the system for any on-air testing, using the new freqs would not adversely impact the current EDACS system users. If I hear any activity, then I flip over to P-25.

No. According to a friend of mine the system is currently online in testing mode. He drove through there several days ago, and found one of the P25 control channels active, but heard no active talkgroups. Apparently, your scanner did the same thing, and flashed the DAT on your screen.

For testing, the Tech's are bringing-up the P-25 Control Channel on one or two of the system frequencies, and not disturbing the EDACS users.

This can be tricky, as these users are recycling their existing edacs frequency pairs over to P-25.

So, for testing, they partition off one or more Mastr3 repeaters and remove them from assignment on Edacs. Then activate the new Mast5 repeaters on those frequency pairs for P-25 testing.

I saw radio reference updated the frequencys and included Bedford repeater, wonder why they didn't put up the ones that are in the 810mhz range that's on the FCC licence, I guess because they are just for dead spots?

Are the Lynchburg sites the only ones up or are there any others going yet?

Typically will all police channels be encrypted if encryption is in place?

I beg to differ...

When I was a System Administrator of a public safety trunked system and the 9-1-1 call center, the only three talkgroups we had which were encrypted were:

- PD Narcotics
- PD/FD/EMS/EMA Command
- Radio Shop

You may wonder why the radio shop talkgroup was secure? In this way, we could discuss anything about the radio system's day to day operation and upkeep without fear of it being on the evening news.

...And the Jokes were a hell of a lot better.

With Lynchburg installing a p25 system, anybody know if they have installed new portable or mobiles in public safety vehicles? If so are they motorola or Harris radios?

So the OP upgrade just took effect this week.

I was just talking with a Bedford County Deputy who was issued a Harris XL-200 and he loves it. They too have updated to P25.

I know we all would love to get our scanners and personal radios up to speed. Does anyone have any personality data for Region 2000?
