Really thinking about buying the 920S for my new SDS150. Is it worth it? My primary systems are VHF Hi but I do find myself scanning an occasional 800mHz system here and there. One of which is a multi-site simulcast system. The stock antenna seems to do "okay" on these systems, but if the 920S is a game changer I'll probably buy one.

The 920s is a great antenna; it stays on my SDS100. It's great on the UHF and 7/800 bands it's made for, but terrible on VHF. The 843s is a pretty good performer for all three bands. Not as good as a VHF 1/4 wave, but more compact and much better than stock.

Here SE of Dallas, I use my SDS on 7/8 PS systems, and UHF medevac stuff. For those bands, it is a game-changer. Looks good, has an O-ring, and great performance for those bands. It's definitely not the choice for any but strong VHF signals. It will miss a lot of weaker stuff that the 843 and others will catch just fine.

Hope that helps you.

Just an update for those who may search and find this in the future, my 920S arrived yesterday and I immediately put it on my SDS150. I wouldn't say it's a "night and day" difference, but I can tell a fair improvement over the stock antenna on a neighboring county's "mostly encrypted" P25 simulcast system.

Also, the cheapest price I found was at one of the site sponsors, Scanner Master.

If your main interest is 700-800 MHz, then the 820S is the better performer compared to the 920S. I have both & the 820S is superior on 800. There was a guy on YT who compared them and had the same results as me.

I have both and the 820 does have a slight advantage on 7/800, but as far as aesthetics go the 920 looks so much more professional in my opinion.
