With that antenna do you telescope it all of the way and is the radio still stable with 31" of antenna?

I do the same thing with my telescopics. Did you have to modify it at all or just acted it in?

I use a Motorola Portable (8505241U11) 764-870 MHz SMA antenna.
Little 1/8 trim of the base works perfectly for $20 on Amazon.

Sorry got the antennas mixed up for the correct radio.
For the SDS100 I use a UHF Portable Antenna, 764-870 MHz, SMA from a KNG P800 P25 radio.
Believe I got it from ameradio while back.
Can pick a MARCS-IP tower site in house 30 miles.
